Kakao has joined hands with major supermarket chain E-mart to launch Kakao Mart, adding to its other O2O services such as food delivery and beauty salons.

Kakao Mart lets users order supermarket items right from their phone and have them delivered to their door. While ordering groceries to your door is nothing new in Korea, the feature streamlines the process so that Kakao users can order items and even pay right from within Kakao Talk. There is no need to download another app or sign up for membership, and shoppers can choose from over 100,000 products.

The service also has a special feature called ‘Shopping Together’ which lets you share an online shopping cart with friends or family. This could potentially be great for family grocery shopping or going on company trips, where each member of the group chooses the items they want.

In addition to this, Kakao Mart offers recipes aimed at people living alone, and the app makes it easy to place orders for specific ingredients. As part of the launch, for the next two weeks Kakao is offering emoticons, 10% discounts and free delivery coupons to users who register their address.
