Liveo launches new private video streaming platform on iOS

Today Liveo launched its live streaming video app on iOS following a successful beta test, with an Android version to be released in August.

Streaming video is a multi-billion dollar market, with Snapchat and Facebook users watching 10 billion and 8 billion videos a day respectively according to Dacast. It’s estimated that users watch live video streams up to three times longer than standard videos, and leave 10 times as many comments.

While most platforms like Instagram, Periscope and Snapchat are aimed at streaming to as many people as possible, Liveo is a private platform reminiscent of Path, that lets you stream video to your friends and nobody else.

Besides streaming to your whole network or just select users, you can save videos to your timeline and even send stream requests to your contacts with the ‘What’s Up’ feature. Like many other apps, you can also send short prerecorded ‘video snaps’, and add comments to communicate with other users.

Liveo originally launched its beta version last December, and within three months had received downloads from over 50 countries. The app was received well in the US, as well as Qatar and other Middle Eastern countries.

“Because people have parents and teachers among their many friends on Facebook, people can shy away from doing live streams which can’t be edited,” says Liveo Co-Founder Clair Park. “But with Liveo, users can have a more enjoyable experience and feel more comfortable making live broadcasts by inviting only the friends they want.”

Liveo plans to focus on the local and US market for now, with plans to expand the platform into a global service. The company has already received seed funding in 2016, and was the first Korean team chosen for the Blue Startups accelerator program located in the US.
