Naver has formed a strategic partnership with Qualcomm Technologies for its latest AI project Clova.

As part of the MOU, Naver will use Qualcomm’s SoC (system-on-chip) to power Clova, an AI service that it is developing together with Line. Already used on IoT devices, SoC will eventually offer Clova as an AI platform on smartphones.

Naver hopes that by joining forces with Qualcomm, it will set a standard for the development of AI devices going forward. Companies creating products such as smart speakers should be able to easily integrate the Clova platform into their device by using SoC.

Earlier today, Tech in Asia published photos of Line’s speakers which will use the AI technology, in what’s been described as the most important project for the company.

Han Seong-sook, CEO of Naver, says that through cooperation with Quallcomm, he looks forward to the  expansion of the market for Clova-based AI platforms. “We will continue to improve Clova’s performance, and lead the shift into the age of AI.”

A beta version of Naver’s Clova is already available on Android and can be downloaded from Google Play.
