암모니아 전기분해 기반 수소 생산 기술을 개발하는 스타트업 AES Tech(에이이에스텍, 대표 전재홍)가 신용보증기금이 운영하는 혁신 스타트업 성장지원 프로그램 ‘프리아이콘(Pre-ICON)’에 최종 선정됐다. 이번 선정으로 AES Tech은 향후 3년간 최대 30억 원 규모의 보증지원을 받게 된다.
프리아이콘은 창업 2~10년 이내 도약기 스타트업 중 기술력과 사업성, 성장 가능성이 검증된 기업을 선발해 자금 운용을 지원하는 프로그램으로, 보증 지원을 통해 기업의 시장 진입과 스케일업을 유도하는 데 목적이 있다.
AES Tech은 지난 2022년 신보의 초기 창업기업 지원 제도인 ‘퍼스트펭귄’에 선정된 데 이어, 이번 프리아이콘 선정으로 후속 지원까지 이어지며 성장 단계 기업으로서의 가능성을 공식적으로 인정받았다.
AES Tech은 독자적인 암모니아 수전해 기술 기반의 ammoNOVA 시스템을 개발하고 있다. 해당 시스템은 ▲신속한 구동 ▲실시간 수소 순도 제어 ▲무(無)물·무(無)질소산화물(NOₓ) 배출 구조 ▲모듈형 확장성 등의 기술적 특징을 갖고 있으며, 기존 수소 생산 방식의 한계를 극복할 수 있는 대안 기술로 평가받고 있다.
회사는 2025년까지 10Nm³/h급 상업용 프로토타입 개발, 2027년까지는 50Nm³/h급 상용 모듈 출시를 목표로 기술 고도화에 나서고 있다. 이와 함께 이탈리아 국립연구위원회(CNR), 전극 전문 기업 데 노라(De Nora) 등과의 공동 연구를 통해 촉매 및 코팅 기술 협력도 진행 중이다.
AES Tech은 이번 보증 지원을 바탕으로 연구개발, 장비 확보, 파일럿 프로젝트 등 사업화 준비를 안정적으로 추진할 계획이다.
전재홍 AES Tech 대표는 “이번 프리아이콘 선정을 통해 기술 경쟁력과 성장 가능성을 대외적으로 인정받게 됐다”며 “발전, 운송, 산업공정 등 다양한 수요처에 대응 가능한 AES Tech의 기술은 차세대 수소 공급 플랫폼으로서의 역할을 수행할 것”이라고 밝혔다.

AES Tech Selects New Album 'Free Icon'
AES Tech (CEO Jaehong Jeon), a startup developing ammonia electrolysis-based hydrogen production technology, has been selected for the "Pre-ICON" program, an innovative startup growth support program operated by the Korea Credit Guarantee Fund. With this selection, AES Tech will receive up to 3 billion won in guarantee support over the next three years.
Free Icon is a program that selects and supports financial management of startups with proven technological prowess, business viability, and growth potential among startups that have been in business for 2 to 10 years. The program aims to encourage companies to enter the market and scale up through guarantee support.
AES Tech was selected for Shinbo's early-stage startup support program, 'First Penguin', in 2022, and with this selection as a Free Icon, it has been officially recognized for its potential as a growth-stage company with follow-up support.
AES Tech is developing the ammoNOVA system, based on its proprietary ammonia electrolysis technology. The system boasts several technical features, including rapid operation, real-time hydrogen purity control, zero water and nitrogen oxide (NOₓ) emissions, and modular scalability. It is being evaluated as an alternative technology that can overcome the limitations of existing hydrogen production methods.
The company is advancing its technology with the goal of developing a 10 Nm³/h commercial prototype by 2025 and launching a 50 Nm³/h commercial module by 2027. Furthermore, the company is collaborating on catalyst and coating technologies through joint research with the Italian National Research Council (CNR) and electrode specialist De Nora.
Based on this guarantee support, AES Tech plans to steadily advance commercialization preparations, including research and development, equipment acquisition, and pilot projects.
