미래 항공 모빌리티 전문기업 에어빌리티(Airbility Inc.)는 사우디아라비아 SANAD Industrial Company LLC와 무인항공기(UAV) 제조 및 현지화를 위한 합작법인(JV) 설립 협력 양해각서(MoU)를 체결했다고 12일 밝혔다. 이번 협약은 6일(현지시각) 사우디 리야드 소재 코트라(KOTRA) 무역관에서 진행됐으며, 코트라 해외지사화 사업의 지원을 받아 성사됐다.
에어빌리티는 전동 틸트로터 기반 고속 eVTOL(수직이착륙 전기항공기)을 개발하는 기업으로, 현대자동차와 국방과학연구소(ADD) 출신 항공 전문가들이 2023년 공동 창업했다. 현재 ISR(정보·감시·정찰), 안티드론(대드론), 재난 대응(DFR) 등 다양한 임무형 무인항공 솔루션을 개발하고 있으며, 글로벌 시장을 대상으로 한 확장형 항공 플랫폼 기술 고도화에 주력하고 있다.
협력 파트너인 SANAD Industrial은 EROG 그룹 산하 산업·방산 전문 기업으로, 사우디 정부의 ‘Vision 2030’ 전략에 따라 첨단 제조 기술의 현지화와 방산 자립 역량 강화를 추진 중이다. 이번 협약은 사우디 내 UAV 생산 생태계 구축과 항공 기술 국산화 촉진을 위한 상호 협력의 일환으로 체결됐다.
양사는 약 8,000㎡ 규모의 UAV 생산 시설을 공동으로 구축할 계획이다. 초기에는 에어빌리티의 고속 eVTOL 기체 ‘AB-U60’의 조립 및 현지 생산을 중심으로 협력하며, 향후 하이브리드 추진 시스템을 적용한 중·대형 UAV 개발 및 생산으로 사업을 확장할 예정이다.
류태규 에어빌리티 대표는 “EROG 그룹 산하의 SANAD Industrial과 함께 사우디 현지에서 UAV 생산을 본격화하게 되어 뜻깊게 생각한다”며, “이번 협력은 에어빌리티 기술의 현지화뿐만 아니라 글로벌 항공산업 생태계 속에서 지속 가능한 성장 기반을 마련하는 중요한 계기가 될 것”이라고 말했다.

Airability Signs MOU with Saudi Arabia's SANAD Industrial to Establish UAV Joint Venture
Airbility Inc., a future air mobility specialist, announced on the 12th that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Saudi Arabia's SANAD Industrial Company LLC to establish a joint venture (JV) for the manufacture and localization of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). The agreement, signed on the 6th (local time) at the KOTRA trade center in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, was made possible with support from KOTRA's overseas branch establishment project.
Airability, a company developing high-speed electric tiltrotor-based eVTOL (electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft), was co-founded in 2023 by aviation experts from Hyundai Motor Company and the Agency for Defense Development (ADD). Currently, the company is developing a variety of mission-specific unmanned aerial vehicle solutions, including intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR), anti-drone (counter-drone), and disaster response (DFR), and is focusing on advancing scalable aerial platform technology for the global market.
Our partner, SANAD Industrial, is a specialized industrial and defense company under the EROG Group. In line with the Saudi government's "Vision 2030" strategy, SANAD is promoting the localization of advanced manufacturing technologies and strengthening self-reliance in the defense industry. This agreement is part of a collaborative effort to establish a UAV production ecosystem in Saudi Arabia and promote the domestic production of aviation technology.
The two companies plan to jointly build a UAV production facility measuring approximately 8,000 square meters. Initially, the collaboration will focus on the assembly and local production of Airability's high-speed eVTOL aircraft, the AB-U60. Going forward, the two companies plan to expand their business to include the development and production of medium- to large-sized UAVs utilizing hybrid propulsion systems.

Dans un premier temps, la collaboration portera sur l'assemblage et la production locale du drone eVTOL à grande vitesse AB-U60 d'Airability. À terme, elles envisagent d'étendre leurs activités au développement et à la production de drones de taille moyenne à grande, équipés de systèmes de propulsion hybrides.
« Nous sommes ravis de lancer la production à grande échelle de drones en Arabie saoudite en partenariat avec SANAD Industrial, filiale du groupe EROG », a déclaré Tae-gyu Ryu, PDG d'Airability. « Cette collaboration contribuera non seulement à la localisation de la technologie d'Airability, mais constituera également une opportunité importante pour jeter les bases d'une croissance durable au sein de l'écosystème mondial de l'industrie aéronautique. »
