AI 전문기업 업스테이지(대표 김성훈)는 과학기술정보통신부 ‘독자 AI 파운데이션 모델 프로젝트(독파모)’ 컨소시엄을 글로벌 명문대 연구진과 국내 주요 산업·공공 파트너를 추가로 확보하며 대폭 확대한다고 8일 밝혔다.
이번 컨소시엄 확대는 프로젝트 2차 단계를 앞두고 핵심 모델 연구 역량을 글로벌 수준으로 강화하고, 다양한 산업 현장에 AI 전환(AX) 서비스를 신속하게 확산하기 위한 전략적 조치다. 업스테이지는 앞서 독자 개발 모델 ‘솔라 오픈 100B’를 공개했으며, 딥시크 ‘딥시크 R1’, 오픈AI ‘GPT-OSS-120B’ 등 글로벌 유력 모델과 경쟁 가능한 성능을 선보인 바 있다.
학계에서는 딥러닝 분야 세계적 석학인 스탠퍼드대학교 최예진 교수와 뉴욕대학교 조경현 교수가 새롭게 합류한다. 업스테이지는 이들과 공동 연구와 인재 교류를 확대해 ‘솔라 오픈’ 모델의 핵심 기술을 고도화하고 글로벌 AI 경쟁력을 강화한다는 계획이다.
산업 분야에서는 비즈니스 메신저 ‘채널톡’을 운영하는 채널코퍼레이션이 고객 서비스(CS) AI 에이전트를 개발하며, 핀테크 기업 핀다는 초개인화 금융 상품 추천 서비스를 구축한다. 또한 한국전자기술연구원(KETI)은 공공 영역 특화 에이전트 연구와 AX 추진을 지원한다.
업스테이지는 확장된 컨소시엄을 통해 ‘솔라 오픈’의 기술 완성도와 성능을 높이고, 이를 기반으로 산업 현장과 국민 생활 속에서 체감 가능한 AX 서비스를 신속히 확산할 계획이다.
김성훈 업스테이지 대표는 “글로벌 석학들과의 협력과 각 산업 대표 파트너들의 참여로 독자 AI 모델 개발과 AX 확산에 더욱 속도가 붙을 것”이라며 “대한민국 AI 기술 자립과 생태계 활성화를 위해 최선을 다하겠다”고 말했다.

Upstage (CEO Kim Seong-hun), an AI specialized company, announced on the 8th that it will significantly expand the Ministry of Science and ICT's 'Independent AI Foundation Model Project (Dokpamo)' consortium by additionally securing researchers from prestigious global universities and major domestic industrial and public partners.

In the academic world, Professor Yejin Choi of Stanford University and Professor Kyunghyun Cho of New York University, both world-renowned experts in deep learning, are joining the team. Upstage plans to expand joint research and talent exchange with them to advance the core technologies of its "Solar Open" model and strengthen its global AI competitiveness.
In the industrial sector, Channel Corporation, operator of the business messenger "Channel Talk," is developing a customer service (CS) AI agent, while fintech company Finda is building a hyper-personalized financial product recommendation service. Furthermore, the Korea Electronics Technology Institute (KETI) is supporting research on public sector-specific agents and the advancement of AX.
Upstage plans to enhance the technological perfection and performance of 'Solar Open' through the expanded consortium, and based on this, quickly expand the AX service that can be felt in industrial sites and people's daily lives.
