AI·클라우드 선도 기업 메가존클라우드(대표 염동훈)가 인공지능(AI) 기반 신약 개발 플랫폼 기업 팜캐드(PharmCADD)와 양자AI 기술을 활용한 신약개발 프로세스 혁신 업무협약(MOU)을 체결했다.
이번 협약에 따라 팜캐드는 신약 개발을 위한 양자컴퓨팅 알고리즘 및 애플리케이션을 개발하고, 메가존클라우드는 아마존웹서비스(Amazon Web Services, 이하 AWS) 클라우드 기반 양자컴퓨팅 서비스 아마존 브라켓(Braket)을 통해 양자 및 고성능 컴퓨팅(HPC) 환경을 구축해 팜캐드의 알고리즘과 애플리케이션이 클라우드 환경에서 최적화된 상태로 운영될 수 있도록 지원한다.
팜캐드는 아마존 브라켓을 통해 IonQ , IQM , Rigetti 등 다양한 양자컴퓨팅 하드웨어와 에뮬레이터에 접근할 수 있게 된다.
또한 메가존클라우드는 개발된 애플리케이션을 전세계 제약·바이오사들이 활용할 수 있도록 유통 및 비즈니스 확장 전략도 지원할 예정이다. 이 애플리케이션을 활용하면 제약·바이오사들이 별도의 양자컴퓨팅 인프라를 구축하지 않고도 신약개발 프로세스를 최적화하고 연구 효율성을 높일 것으로 기대된다.
메가존클라우드 양자컴퓨팅 사업 총괄 김동호 부사장(CQO·Chief Quantum Officer)은 “양자컴퓨팅은 신약 후보 물질의 분석과 선정 과정에서 기존 기술로는 해결하기 어려운 문제를 극복할 수 있는 혁신적인 도구가 될 것”이라며, “이번 협력을 통해 메가존클라우드는 신약 개발 분야에서 실질적인 성과를 도출할 수 있도록 지원하겠다”고 말했다.
팜캐드의 우상욱 대표는 “메가존클라우드와의 협력을 통해 신약 개발 과정에 양자컴퓨팅 기반의 AI 기술을 접목함으로써 보다 정밀하고 효율적인 약물 설계가 가능할 것으로 기대된다”며, “이번 협력을 계기로 새로운 연구 성과를 도출하고, 글로벌 제약·바이오 시장에서 경쟁력을 강화해 나가겠다”고 말했다.

MegaZone Cloud Signs Business Agreement with Palmcad
MegaZone Cloud (CEO Dong-Hoon Yeom) , a leading AI and cloud company, has signed a business agreement (MOU) with PharmCADD, an artificial intelligence (AI)-based new drug development platform company, to innovate the new drug development process using quantum AI technology.
Under this agreement, PharmCAD will develop quantum computing algorithms and applications for new drug development, and MegaZone Cloud will build a quantum and high-performance computing (HPC) environment through Amazon Braket, an Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud-based quantum computing service, to support PharmCAD’s algorithms and applications to operate optimally in a cloud environment.
PalmCAD will have access to a variety of quantum computing hardware and emulators via Amazon Brackets, including IonQ, IQM, and Rigetti.
In addition, MegaZone Cloud will support distribution and business expansion strategies so that pharmaceutical and bio companies around the world can utilize the developed application. By utilizing this application, pharmaceutical and bio companies are expected to optimize the new drug development process and increase research efficiency without having to build a separate quantum computing infrastructure.
“Quantum computing will be an innovative tool that can overcome problems that are difficult to solve with existing technologies in the process of analyzing and selecting new drug candidates,” said Vice President Dong-ho Kim, Chief Quantum Officer of MegaZone Cloud. “Through this collaboration, MegaZone Cloud will support the production of tangible results in the field of new drug development.”
Pharmcad CEO Woo Sang-wook said, “Through our collaboration with MegaZone Cloud, we expect to be able to design more precise and efficient drugs by incorporating quantum computing-based AI technology into the new drug development process,” adding, “Through this collaboration, we will produce new research results and strengthen our competitiveness in the global pharmaceutical and biotech markets.”
