HD현대일렉트릭은 액셀러레이터 기업 ‘블루포인트’, ‘플러그앤플레이’와 국내외 차세대 전력기술 스타트업 발굴을 위한 오픈이노베이션(Open Innovation) 프로그램 ‘파워업(PowerUp) HDE’의 킥오프 행사를 개최했다고 28일 밝혔다.
모집 분야는 차세대 전력, 친환경 에너지, 디지털 전환 등 미래 전력 사업에 필요한 신성장 사업이다. HD현대일렉트릭은 오는 6월부터 스타트업을 모집하고 기술개발 프로그램을 본격적으로 운영한다. 선정된 스타트업에게는 개발비 지원, 기술 검증, 실증 테스트베드 제공, 공동개발 기회 등 실질적인 혜택이 주어진다.
파워업 HDE는 전력(Power)의 흐름을 넘어 기술과 산업, 조직의 전환(Up)을 스타트업과 함께 만들어나가겠다는 의지를 담고 있다. 실증사업(PoC) 중심으로 운영되며, 선정된 스타트업들은 HD현대일렉트릭 실무진으로 구성된 TF와 긴밀하게 협업하게 된다. 실증이 완료되면 후속 투자, 공동 사업화, 장기 파트너십 등으로의 확장도 가능하다.
특히 선발된 스타트업들은 HD현대일렉트릭의 설비를 활용해 기술 검증을 할 수 있다. 개발 인프라가 열악한 스타트업에게는 아이디어를 현실화하고, 개발 기술을 검증할 수 있는 좋은 기회가 될 것으로 보인다.
HD현대일렉트릭 김영기 대표이사 사장은 이 날 킥오프 행사에서 “급변하는 산업환경 속 진정한 도전과 혁신이 반드시 필요하다”며 “미래 전력 신사업 아이디어를 지속 발전시킴으로써 전력 분야의 혁신적인 성장에 기여할 것”이라고 말했다.
HD현대는 창의적이고 도전적인 기업 문화 조성과 새로운 가치 창출을 위해 사내벤처 제도 ‘드림큐브-S’를 운영하며 사내 아이디어 발굴을 지속 추진해왔다. 사내벤처 1호인 아비커스(Avikus)는 2020년 출범해 선박 자율운항 분야의 선도 기업으로 자리매김했다.
한편 이번 스타트업 발굴에는 블루포인트와 플러그앤플레이가 함께 한다. 국내 스타트업 발굴을 맡는 블루포인트는 초기 기술 스타트업 전문 투자사로 다양한 대기업과 협력한 다수의 경험을 보유하고 있다. 블루포인트는 국내 스타트업 모집부터 성과 공유까지 운영 전반을 맡을 계획이다. 해외 스타트업 발굴을 담당하는 플러그앤플레이는 실리콘밸리 기반 글로벌 기업으로 세계 주요 도시 60여 곳에 지사를 두고 있으며 6만 여개의 스타트업 풀을 보유하고 있어 글로벌 액셀러레이터 기업 중 가장 넓은 네트워크를 자랑한다.

HD Hyundai Electric Holds 'Power Up HDE' Kickoff Event
HD Hyundai Electric announced on the 28th that it held a kickoff event for 'PowerUp HDE', an open innovation program for discovering next-generation power technology startups at home and abroad, with accelerator companies 'Bluepoint' and 'Plug and Play'.

Once the proof-of-concept is complete, it can be expanded into follow-up investment, joint business, and long-term partnerships.
In particular, selected startups will be able to use HD Hyundai Electric’s facilities to verify their technology. For startups with poor development infrastructure, this will likely be a great opportunity to turn their ideas into reality and verify their development technology.
At the kickoff event held that day, HD Hyundai Electric CEO Kim Young-ki said, “In this rapidly changing industrial environment, true challenge and innovation are absolutely necessary,” and “We will contribute to the innovative growth of the electric power sector by continuously developing new future electric power business ideas.”
HD Hyundai has been continuously promoting the discovery of internal ideas by operating the in-house venture system 'Dream Cube-S' to foster a creative and challenging corporate culture and create new values. The first in-house venture, Avikus, was launched in 2020 and has established itself as a leading company in the field of autonomous ship navigation.
Meanwhile, Bluepoint and Plug and Play are working together on this startup discovery. Bluepoint, which is in charge of discovering domestic startups, is an early-stage technology startup investment firm with extensive experience in working with various large corporations. Bluepoint plans to take charge of the entire operation, from recruiting domestic startups to sharing results. Plug and Play, which is in charge of discovering overseas startups, is a Silicon Valley-based global company with branches in over 60 major cities around the world and boasts the widest network among global accelerator companies, with a pool of over 60,000 startups.
