비에이치아이는 미국의 4세대 소형모듈원자로(SMR) 유망 원자력 개발기업 ‘토르콘’과 전략적 업무협약(Strategic Partnership Agreement)을 체결했다고 25일 밝혔다. 이번 협약은 용융염 원자로(MSR, Molten Salt Reactor) 기술 기반 해상형 SMR 시스템의 상용화를 목표로 기술적·상업적 협력 강화를 골자로 한다.
양사는 이번 협약을 계기로 협력 초기 단계에서는 토르콘이 인도네시아에서 추진 중인 500MWe 규모의 해상 TMSR(ThorCon Molten Salt Reactor) 실증 프로젝트에 집중할 계획이다. 이후 동남아시아를 포함한 기타 글로벌 시장으로 협력 범위를 확대해 나갈 방침이다.
토르콘은 토륨을 연료로 사용하는 4세대 SMR 기술 기업으로, 안전성과 경제성을 동시에 갖춘 TMSR 원자로 시스템을 개발 중이다. 특히 조선소에서 원자로를 모듈 형태로 제작한 뒤, 바지선을 통해 현장으로 운송·설치하는 방식을 채택하고 있으며 기존 원전 대비 건설 기간을 단축하고 비용 효율성도 높일 수 있어 전 세계적으로 주목받고 있다.
앞서 지난달 토르콘 주요 관계자들이 비에이치아이 본사를 방문해 심도 있는 기술 및 사업 협력 방안을 논의한 바 있다. 이번 업무협약은 약 한 달여 만에 성사된 결과다.
비에이치아이 관계자는 “토르콘은 차세대 원전 분야에서 매우 경쟁력 있는 기술을 보유한 기업”이라며 “당사의 기술력과 글로벌 시장에서의 풍부한 프로젝트 경험을 높이 평가받아 이례적으로 빠른 시일 내 이번 업무협약까지 체결할 수 있게 됐다”고 설명했다.
그는 이어 “현재 양사는 실질적인 기술 협력 및 사업화 논의를 유의미한 방향으로 이어가고 있다”며 “토르콘과 파너트십을 지속 강화하며 성공적인 결과를 창출할 수 있도록 최선을 다하겠다”고 덧붙였다.

BHI Signs Strategic Business Agreement with Torcon
BHI announced on the 25th that it has signed a Strategic Partnership Agreement with Torcon, a promising nuclear power development company for the 4th generation small modular reactor (SMR) in the United States. The purpose of this agreement is to strengthen technical and commercial cooperation with the goal of commercializing a marine SMR system based on Molten Salt Reactor (MSR) technology.

Torcon is a 4th generation SMR technology company that uses thorium as fuel, and is developing a TMSR reactor system that is both safe and economical. In particular, it is adopting a method of manufacturing the reactor in a module form at a shipyard and then transporting and installing it on site via a barge, and is receiving attention worldwide as it can shorten the construction period and increase cost efficiency compared to existing nuclear power plants.
Last month, Torcon's key executives visited BHI's headquarters and discussed in-depth technical and business cooperation plans. This business agreement was concluded in about a month.
A BHI official explained, “Torcon is a company with highly competitive technology in the next-generation nuclear power plant field,” and “Our technological prowess and our extensive project experience in the global market were highly evaluated, which allowed us to sign this business agreement at an unusually short notice.”
He added, “Currently, the two companies are continuing discussions on practical technical cooperation and commercialization in a meaningful direction,” and “We will do our best to continue to strengthen our partnership with Torcon and produce successful results.”

先月先月、トルコンの主要関係者がビエイチアイ本社を訪問し、深い技術と事業協力方案を議論したことがある。今回の業務協約は約1ヶ月ぶりに実現した結果だ。
ビエイチアイ関係者は「トルコンは次世代原発分野で非常に競争力のある技術を保有した企業」とし「当社の技術力とグローバル市場での豊富なプロジェクト経験を高く評価され、異例の早い時期に今回の業務協約まで締結できるようになった」と説明した。
彼は引き続き「現在両社は実質的な技術協力及び事業化の議論を有意な方向に続けている」とし「トルコンとパーナットシップを持続強化し、成功した結果を創出できるよう最善を尽くす」と付け加えた。

BHI signe un accord commercial stratégique avec Torcon
BHI a annoncé le 25 juin la signature d'un accord de partenariat stratégique avec Torcon, une société prometteuse de développement d'énergie nucléaire pour le petit réacteur modulaire (SMR) de 4e génération aux États-Unis. Cet accord vise à renforcer la coopération technique et commerciale en vue de la commercialisation d'un système SMR marin basé sur la technologie des réacteurs à sels fondus (MSR).
Grâce à cet accord, les deux entreprises prévoient de se concentrer sur le projet de démonstration du réacteur à sels fondus offshore ThorCon (TMSR) de 500 MWe, actuellement en cours en Indonésie, dans la phase initiale de leur collaboration. Elles prévoient d'étendre leur collaboration à d'autres marchés internationaux, notamment en Asie du Sud-Est.
Torcon est une entreprise de technologie SMR de 4e génération utilisant le thorium comme combustible et développant un système de réacteur TMSR à la fois sûr et économique. Elle adopte notamment une méthode de fabrication du réacteur sous forme de module sur un chantier naval, puis de transport et d'installation sur site par barge. Cette méthode suscite un intérêt mondial car elle permet de raccourcir les délais de construction et d'améliorer la rentabilité par rapport aux centrales nucléaires existantes.
Le mois dernier, les principaux dirigeants de Torcon se sont rendus au siège de BHI et ont discuté en profondeur des projets de coopération technique et commerciale. Cet accord commercial a été conclu en environ un mois.
Un responsable de BHI a expliqué : « Torcon est une entreprise dotée d'une technologie hautement compétitive dans le domaine des centrales nucléaires de nouvelle génération » et « Nos prouesses technologiques et notre vaste expérience de projets sur le marché mondial ont été hautement évaluées, ce qui nous a permis de signer cet accord commercial dans un délai inhabituellement court. »
Il a ajouté : « Actuellement, les deux sociétés poursuivent leurs discussions sur la coopération technique pratique et la commercialisation dans une direction significative » et « Nous ferons de notre mieux pour continuer à renforcer notre partenariat avec Torcon et produire des résultats positifs. »
