생체재료 기반 융복합 의료기기 전문기업 ㈜오랜드바이오(대표 한동근)가 중소벤처기업부가 주관하는 기술창업 지원 프로그램 ‘딥테크 팁스(TIPS) 패스트트랙’에 최종 선정됐다. 팁스 운영사이자 액셀러레이터인 젠엑시스(대표 손미경)의 투자와 추천을 통해 선발된 오랜드바이오는 향후 3년간 15억 원 규모의 정부 연구개발(R&D) 자금을 지원받아 첨단 의료기기 개발에 박차를 가할 예정이다.
이번 선정 과제는 ‘첨단 생체적합 고성능 스캐폴드를 이용한 반려동물 및 인체용 신장 기능회복 혁신 의료기기 개발’로, 기존 혈액투석과 신장이식 치료의 한계를 극복하고 손상된 신장 기능을 회복할 수 있는 대체 치료기술 개발에 집중하고 있다. 만성신장질환(CKD)은 전 세계 성인 10명 중 1명이 앓고 있으며, 국내에서도 암과 치매보다 높은 치료비가 소요되는 질환으로 알려져 있다. 특히 말기 신부전 전 단계에서 기능이 일부 남아 있는 환자를 대상으로 한 조기 개입 치료기술은 투석과 이식을 늦추거나 대체할 수 있는 중요한 대안으로 주목받고 있다.
오랜드바이오가 개발 중인 ‘CharmRenal’은 생분해성 고분자 기반의 생체적합 스캐폴드 기술을 활용한 이식형 의료기기로, 신장 조직 재생을 유도해 기능 회복을 돕는다. 소동물 실험 결과 신장 기능이 15% 수준으로 저하된 상태에서 30~50%까지 회복됐으며, 이는 사람의 일상생활이 가능한 수준에 해당한다. 해당 기술은 반려동물과 인체용으로 확장 개발될 계획이다. 특히 반려견과 반려묘 시장에서는 신장질환이 주요 사망 원인으로 관련 의료기기에 대한 수요가 빠르게 증가하고 있다.
오랜드바이오는 이번 과제를 통해 반려동물용 제품의 전임상과 상용화를 추진하고, 인체용 제품은 GLP 기반 전임상과 GMP 제조기술 개발, 국가별 인허가 전략 수립 및 글로벌 진출 기반 마련을 단계적으로 진행할 예정이다. 반려동물용 제품은 국내 2029년, 해외 2031년 출시를 목표로 하며, 사람 대상 제품은 국내 2031년, 해외 2034년 이후 출시 계획이다.
젠엑시스는 오랜드바이오의 딥테크 TIPS 선정에 대해 “혈액투석과 신장이식 중심 기존 치료 방식의 한계를 극복할 수 있는 기술”이라며 “생체재료 기반 스캐폴드 기술과 재생의료 융합 역량을 바탕으로 글로벌 시장에서 의미 있는 성과를 기대한다”고 밝혔다.

Orland Bio selected for the Ministry of SMEs and Startups' "Deep Tech Tips Fast Track" program.
Orand Bio (CEO Dong-geun Han), a biomaterial-based convergence medical device company, has been selected for the "Deep Tech TIPS Fast Track," a technology startup support program hosted by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups. Selected through investment and recommendation from Genaxis (CEO Mi-kyung Son), the operator and accelerator of TIPS, Orand Bio will receive KRW 1.5 billion in government research and development (R&D) funding over the next three years to accelerate the development of cutting-edge medical devices.
This selected project, "Development of an Innovative Medical Device for Restoring Kidney Function in Pets and Humans Using Advanced Biocompatible, High-Performance Scaffolds," focuses on developing alternative treatment technologies that overcome the limitations of existing hemodialysis and kidney transplant treatments and restore damaged kidney function. Chronic kidney disease (CKD) affects one in ten adults worldwide, and in Korea, it is known to require more treatment costs than cancer and dementia. In particular, early intervention treatment technologies targeting patients with some remaining function before end-stage renal failure are attracting attention as an important alternative that can delay or replace dialysis and transplantation.
"CharmRenal," currently under development by Orland Bio, is an implantable medical device utilizing biocompatible scaffold technology based on a biodegradable polymer. It promotes regeneration of kidney tissue and promotes functional recovery. Small animal experiments have shown that kidney function recovered from 15% to 30-50%, equivalent to a normal human function. The technology is planned to be expanded for use in companion animals and humans. In particular, demand for related medical devices is rapidly increasing in the dog and cat markets, where kidney disease is a leading cause of death.
Through this project, Orland Bio will pursue preclinical trials and commercialization of companion animal products. For human products, Orland Bio plans to gradually advance GLP-based preclinical trials, develop GMP manufacturing technology, establish country-specific regulatory strategies, and lay the groundwork for global expansion. The companion animal product is targeted for domestic launch in 2029 and international launch in 2031, while the human product is slated for domestic launch in 2031 and international launch in 2034 or later.
Regarding the selection of Orland Bio's DeepTech TIPS, GenAxis stated, "This is a technology that can overcome the limitations of existing treatment methods centered on hemodialysis and kidney transplantation," and added, "We expect meaningful results in the global market based on our biomaterial-based scaffold technology and our capabilities in converging regenerative medicine."

今回の選定課題は「先端生体適合高性能スキャフォールドを利用したペットや人体用腎臓機能回復革新医療機器開発」で、既存の血液透析と腎臓移植治療の限界を克服し、損傷した腎機能を回復できる代替治療技術の開発に集中している。慢性腎疾患（CKD）は、世界中の成人10人のうち1人が苦しんでおり、国内でもがんや認知症より高い治療費がかかる疾患として知られている。特に、末期腎不全の前段階で機能が一部残っている患者を対象とした早期介入治療技術は、透析と移植を遅らせたり、置き換えることができる重要な代替案として注目されている。

Orand Bio (PDG Dong-geun Han), entreprise de dispositifs médicaux convergents à base de biomatériaux, a été sélectionnée pour le programme « Deep Tech TIPS Fast Track », un programme de soutien aux startups technologiques organisé par le ministère des PME et des Startups. Sélectionnée grâce à un investissement et à la recommandation de Genaxis (PDG Mi-kyung Son), opérateur et accélérateur du TIPS, Orand Bio bénéficiera d'un financement public de 1,5 milliard de wons pour la recherche et le développement (R&D) au cours des trois prochaines années afin d'accélérer le développement de dispositifs médicaux de pointe.
Ce projet, « Développement d'un dispositif médical innovant pour la restauration de la fonction rénale chez les animaux de compagnie et les humains grâce à des échafaudages biocompatibles de pointe et à haute performance », vise à développer des technologies thérapeutiques alternatives permettant de surmonter les limites des traitements actuels d'hémodialyse et de transplantation rénale et de restaurer la fonction rénale endommagée. L'insuffisance rénale chronique (IRC) touche un adulte sur dix dans le monde et, en Corée, son coût de traitement est supérieur à celui du cancer et de la démence. En particulier, les technologies d'intervention précoce ciblant les patients présentant une fonction rénale résiduelle avant l'insuffisance rénale terminale suscitent l'intérêt, car elles constituent une alternative importante permettant de retarder, voire de remplacer, la dialyse et la transplantation.
« CharmRenal », actuellement développé par Orland Bio, est un dispositif médical implantable utilisant une technologie d'échafaudage biocompatible à base de polymère biodégradable. Il favorise la régénération du tissu rénal et la récupération fonctionnelle. Des expériences sur de petits animaux ont montré une récupération de la fonction rénale de 15 % à 30-50 %, équivalente à une fonction humaine normale. Cette technologie devrait être étendue aux animaux de compagnie et aux humains. La demande pour ces dispositifs médicaux est notamment en forte croissance sur les marchés canin et félin, où les maladies rénales sont une cause majeure de mortalité.
Grâce à ce projet, Orland Bio poursuivra les essais précliniques et la commercialisation de produits destinés aux animaux de compagnie. Pour les produits destinés à l'homme, Orland Bio prévoit de progresser progressivement dans les essais précliniques conformes aux BPL, de développer une technologie de fabrication conforme aux BPF, d'établir des stratégies réglementaires spécifiques à chaque pays et de préparer le terrain pour une expansion mondiale. Le lancement national du produit destiné aux animaux de compagnie est prévu pour 2029 et le lancement international pour 2031, tandis que le lancement national du produit destiné à l'homme est prévu pour 2031 et le lancement international pour 2034 ou plus tard.
Concernant la sélection des TIPS DeepTech d'Orland Bio, GenAxis a déclaré : « Il s'agit d'une technologie qui peut surmonter les limites des méthodes de traitement existantes centrées sur l'hémodialyse et la transplantation rénale », et a ajouté : « Nous attendons des résultats significatifs sur le marché mondial grâce à notre technologie d'échafaudage à base de biomatériaux et à nos capacités de convergence de la médecine régénérative. »
