글로벌 영상 채팅 플랫폼 기업 하이퍼커넥트가 최의종 전 스마일게이트RPG 테크니컬 디렉터(TD)를 신임 최고기술책임자(CTO)로 선임했다고 11일 밝혔다.
최의종 CTO는 20년 이상의 경력을 가진 베테랑 기술 리더로, 게임 및 플랫폼 업계에서 기술 전략 수립과 대규모 엔지니어링 조직 구축을 주도해왔다. 하이퍼커넥트는 이번 인사를 통해 기술 중심의 성장 전략을 가속화하고 글로벌 경쟁력을 강화할 계획이다.
최 CTO는 합류 전 스마일게이트RPG에서 ‘로스트아크 모바일’ 개발을 총괄했으며, 넥슨게임즈에서는 액션 RPG ‘HIT’의 테크니컬 디렉터를, 위메이드아이오에서는 ‘로스트사가’ 기술 총괄을 맡는 등 다양한 주요 기술직을 역임했다. 특히 스마일게이트RPG 재직 시 신규 모바일 스튜디오 설립과 품질 중심 개발 문화를 정착시켰으며, 넥슨게임즈에서는 주력 게임의 글로벌 진출과 현지화, 안정적 운영 체계 구축을 담당했다. 위메이드아이오 CTO 재임 기간에는 개발 조직 규모를 두 배로 확대하고 주요 게임 프로젝트를 출시했다.
최 CTO는 앞으로 하이퍼커넥트에서 기술 역량을 바탕으로 서비스 경쟁력 향상과 기술 전략, 개발 문화 고도화를 추진할 예정이다. CTO 직속의 기술 리더십 체계를 강화해 글로벌 시장 변화에 민첩하게 대응할 수 있는 조직을 구축할 계획이다. 또한 글로벌 사용자 환경에 최적화된 기술 역량 강화와 엔지니어 간 협업 및 지속 성장 가능한 개발 조직 조성을 목표로 한다.

Hyperconnect Appoints Choi Ui-jong as CTO
Global video chat platform company Hyperconnect announced on the 11th that it has appointed Choi Ui-jong, former technical director (TD) of Smilegate RPG, as its new chief technology officer (CTO).
CTO Choi Eui-jong is a veteran technology leader with over 20 years of experience, having spearheaded technology strategy development and the establishment of large-scale engineering organizations in the gaming and platform industries. With this appointment, Hyperconnect plans to accelerate its technology-driven growth strategy and strengthen its global competitiveness.
Prior to joining the company, CTO Choi oversaw the development of "Lost Ark Mobile" at Smilegate RPG, served as the technical director of the action RPG "HIT" at Nexon Games, and was the technical director of "Lost Saga" at Wemade IO. He held various key technical positions. While at Smilegate RPG, he established a new mobile studio and established a quality-focused development culture. At Nexon Games, he was responsible for the global expansion and localization of key games, as well as the establishment of a stable operating system. During his tenure as CTO at Wemade IO, he doubled the size of the development organization and launched major game projects.
Going forward, CTO Choi plans to leverage Hyperconnect's technological capabilities to enhance service competitiveness, enhance technology strategy, and advance its development culture.
