카이노스메드는 예정되어 있던 165억원 규모 3자 배정 유상증자 납입일이 1월 17일로 변경됐다고 1월 2일 밝혔다.
회사 측에 따르면 143억원을 투자하기로 한 주요 투자자인 Chiron Global Group에서 불안한 국내 정세로 소속 정부의 해외 송금 승인 시기가 지연되었다며, 1월 17일 이전에 납입할 예정이다. 그러나, 해당 투자기관은 기존에 공시했던 신주 발행가액 주당 2,545원 투자는 변동없이 진행한다고 전했다.
Chiron Global Group은 UN 산하 IGO (Intergovernmental Organization)의 자본을 활용하여 투자를 하는 기업이다. IGO란 2개 이상의 국가가 공동의 관심사에 대해 신의를 바탕으로 협력하기 위해 만든 정부간 국제기관 조직으로 UN, WHO, Unicef 등이 이에 포함되며, Chiron Global Group은 지속 가능하면서 사회적 공헌 혹은 인류에 공헌하는 프로젝트들에 주로 투자를 집행하고 있다.
UN에서 발표한 지속가능한목표(SDGs) 3에 따르면 2030년까지 예방 및 치료를 통해 파킨슨 질환 등 비전염성 질병으로 인한 조기 사망률을 3분의 1로 줄이고 정신 건강과 웰빙 증진에 주력하고 있다. UN은 범국가적 공동 목표 달성을 위해 전염성 및 비전염성 질병에 대한 백신 및 의약품의 연구 개발을 지원하고 산하기구 및 펀드를 조성해 활동하고 있는 것으로 알려졌다.
회사 측에 따르면 이번 3자 배정 유증 대금 일부가 납입이 지연됐으나 예정된 일정으로 마무리 될 것으로 목표로 하고 있다. 이후 추가 투자 유치를 진행해 미국 파킨슨병 임상2상 및 국내 MSA 임상2상을 계획대로 진행할 예정이다. 이를 위해 MSA 임상2상 재개를 위한 IND 신청을 준비 중에 있다.
카이노스메드의 KM-819는 기존 글로벌 제약사들이 병의 원인으로 예측되는 알파시누클레인을 타깃한 치료제 개발에 힘쓰다 실패한 것과 달리 알파시누클레인 상위 물질인 FAF1을 타깃하고 있어 차별화 됐다. FAF1 조절을 통해 알파시누클레인 억제와 함께 도파민 신경 세포 보호까지 근본적 치료 가능성을 확인해 글로벌 제약사 및 관계자들의 러브콜을 받고 있다.
카이노스메드 관계자는 “불안한 국내외 정세로 인해 일부 잔금 납입이 지연됐지만 독보적인 기술력을 기반으로 유의미한 기관으로부터의 투자 유치를 성공적으로 마무리 할 것”이라며 “이번 투자 유치를 마치고 긍정적인 사업 성과를 순차적으로 공유할 수 있을 것”이라고 전했다.
이어 “예정된 일정의 지연으로 믿고 기다려주신 주주분들께 양해 부탁드리며 기술력과 성장성이 글로벌적으로 인정을 받기 시작하는 것과 함께 국내의 여러 우려들을 불식시킬 수 있도록 결과물로 보여주겠다”고 덧붙였다.

According to the company, while some of the proceeds from this third-party allocation have been delayed, the company aims to complete the project on schedule. It plans to secure additional investment to proceed with the Phase 2 clinical trial for Parkinson's disease in the US and the Phase 2 clinical trial for MSA in Korea as planned. To this end, the company is currently preparing an IND application to resume the Phase 2 clinical trial for MSA.
Kainos Medicine's KM-819 stands out from other global pharmaceutical companies, which have failed to develop treatments targeting alpha-synuclein, the protein suspected to be the cause of the disease. Unlike other companies, which have struggled to develop treatments targeting alpha-synuclein, Kainos Medicine's KM-819 targets FAF1, a precursor molecule of alpha-synuclein. By modulating FAF1, the treatment has demonstrated fundamental therapeutic potential, including both alpha-synuclein inhibition and dopaminergic neuron protection, attracting significant interest from global pharmaceutical companies and industry stakeholders.
A Kainosmed representative stated, “Due to the unstable domestic and international situation, some of the remaining balance payments have been delayed, but we will successfully secure investment from significant institutions based on our unrivaled technological prowess.
