이번 협약을 통해 경기혁신센터는 포틀랜드 지역에 한국 스타트업의 현지 교두보를 확보하게 되었으며, GPI와 협력을 통해 진출 기업에 90일간 무료 오피스 공간을 제공하고, 현지 기업과의 비즈니스 매칭 및 세무·노무 관련 전문 컨설팅 등 실질적인 지원을 제공할 예정이다.
포틀랜드는 Nike, Columbia, Intel 등의 글로벌 기업 본사가 위치한 혁신 클러스터로, 의류·아웃도어, 바이오사이언스, 클린테크, 소프트웨어, 미디어 등 다양한 산업이 발달하여 스타트업의 성장과 사업 확장에 최적화된 환경을 갖추고 있다. 또한, 미국 서부 해안에 위치해 아시아 시장과의 접근성이 뛰어나며, 오리건주와 워싱턴주 7개 카운티를 아우르는 광역 경제권을 형성하고 있어 글로벌 스케일업을 목표로 하는 스타트업들에게 전략적 거점으로 주목받고 있다.
