KS인더스트리가 이엘엠시스템(ELM SYSTEM)과의 혁신적인 사업 전략을 바탕으로 AI 데이터센터 분야에 본격 진출한다. 회사는 해당 사업 추진을 위해 최근 총 210억원 규모의 3자배정 유상증자를 결정했으며, 기존 해상 크레인 사업과의 시너지를 창출한다는 계획이다.
KS인더스트리와 협업하게 되는 이엘엠시스템은 차세대 지능형 통신칩 개발을 위해 여러 해외업체들과 공동 연구를 진행한 바 있는 기업이다. 이엘엠시스템은 인도의 나스닥 상장 기업인 사이파이 테크놀로지(Sify Technologies Limited.)와 AI 데이터센터 설립 및 운영을 위한 MOU를 체결했으며, 이를 통해 AI 연산 최적화 인프라와 클라우드 서비스의 국내 공급을 목표로 하고 있다.
또한 이엘엠시스템은 지난 3일 KS인더스트리와의 협력 강화를 위해 100억원 규모의 유상증자를 결정했다. KS인더스트리는 AI 데이터센터 사업 역량 강화를 위해 2월 19일로 예정된 임시주주총회에서 신규 이사 선임을 진행할 예정이다. 이사 후보자로는 사이파이 테크놀로지 부사장(EVP) 및 퀄컴(Qualcomm Inc.) 연구소장 출신 인사가 포함됐다.
KS인더스트리 관계자는 “통신과 AI 기술을 바탕으로 한 AI 데이터센터는 초대규모 연산 수요에 대응할 지능형 사회 핵심 인프라로 자리잡을 것이며, 이를 위해 이엘엠시스템의 기술력을 바탕으로 글로벌 시장에서 경쟁력을 확보하겠다”며 “브이티(VT) 그룹도 당사의 비전에 공감해 60억원 규모의 유상증자를 결정하고 이엘엠시스템과 투자 일정을 조율한 바 있어 강력한 사업 추진력을 확보할 수 있을 것”이라고 말했다.
한편 KS인더스트리는 자회사인 티아이티엘(TITL)과의 협업을 통해 기존 AI 데이터센터의 발열문제해결을 위한 연구도 진행 중이다. 티아이티엘은 위상절연체 기술 관련 논문은 2020년도 네이쳐지의 상위 1% 논문으로 선정된 바 있다.

An official from KS Industry said , “ AI data centers based on communication and AI technologies will become the core infrastructure of an intelligent society that will respond to ultra-large-scale computational demands . To this end, we will secure competitiveness in the global market based on ELM Systems’ technological prowess. ” He added, “ VT Group also agreed with our vision and decided to increase capital by 6 billion won and coordinated the investment schedule with ELM Systems, so we will be able to secure strong business momentum . ”
Meanwhile, KS Industry is also conducting research to solve the heat generation problem of existing AI data centers through collaboration with its subsidiary , TITL . TITL's paper on topological insulator technology was selected as one of the top 1% papers in Nature in 2020 .
