초기 스타트업 전문 투자사 더벤처스는 글로벌 투자 확대와 내부 심사 체계 고도화를 위해 조여준 최고투자책임자(CIO)를 신규 선임했다고 18일 밝혔다.
더벤처스는 이번 인사를 통해 글로벌 창업 생태계와의 연결을 강화하고, 선제적 투자 전략 수립 및 실행 기반을 확장할 계획이다.
조여준 CIO는 서울대학교 경영학과를 졸업하고, 컬럼비아대학교 MBA를 수료한 후 퀄컴벤처스와 KB인베스트먼트에서 초기 및 성장 단계 스타트업에 대한 투자를 담당했다. 이후 구글코리아에서는 구글플레이 파트너십 주요 실무를 맡아 다양한 기업과의 협업을 이끌었으며, 패스트벤처스에서는 파트너로 활동하며 국내외 창업 생태계와 긴밀히 소통해왔다.
조 CIO는 더벤처스에서 창업자 중심의 심사 체계를 고도화하고, 심사역 조직 운영 및 선제적 투자 발굴과 집행을 총괄한다. 아울러 글로벌 시장 진출을 준비 중인 포트폴리오 기업에 전략 자문 및 성장을 위한 후속 계획을 지원할 예정이다.
더벤처스는 중소벤처기업부로부터 2021년 벤처캐피탈(VC) 등록을 완료해 액셀러레이터(AC)와 VC 자격을 동시에 갖춘 국내 세 번째 기관으로 기록됐다. 초기 발굴부터 성장 단계까지 연속적인 투자 구조를 운영하며, 창업자 밀착 지원을 통한 전략 설계 후 VC 투자로 연결하는 모델을 구축해 왔다.
글로벌 투자 활동도 활발히 전개 중이다. 동남아시아를 주요 성장 거점으로 설정하고, 베트남의 플룸AI를 포함한 현지 스타트업에 선제적으로 투자했다. 콘텐츠, 제조, AI 등 다양한 분야의 포트폴리오를 확대하고 있다. 북미 지역에서는 20개 이상의 포트폴리오사를 확보하며 B2C 소비재 분야에 집중하고 있으며, 미국 내 역외 펀드 조성도 진행 중이다.
한편, 더벤처스는 UC 버클리, 일리노이대 등 미국 주요 대학과 국내 대학과 연계해 초기 딥테크 스타트업을 발굴하는 스카우트 프로그램도 운영 중이다.
대표 포트폴리오로는 헤이딜러, 지바이크, 후르츠패밀리, 프나시어, 모티프드라이브, 트릴리온랩스 등이 있다.

The Ventures , an early-stage startup investment firm, announced on the 18th that it has appointed a new Chief Investment Officer (CIO), Yeo-Jun Cho, to expand global investment and enhance its internal review system.
Through this appointment, The Ventures plans to strengthen its connection with the global startup ecosystem and expand its foundation for establishing and executing proactive investment strategies.
CIO Cho Yeo-jun graduated from Seoul National University’s Department of Business Administration and completed an MBA at Columbia University. He then worked at Qualcomm Ventures and KB Investment in early and growth-stage startups. Afterwards, he was in charge of key practices for Google Play partnerships at Google Korea, leading collaborations with various companies, and as a partner at Fast Ventures, he has been communicating closely with the domestic and international startup ecosystems.
At The Ventures, CIO Cho will enhance the founder-centered evaluation system, oversee the operation of the evaluation organization, and proactive investment discovery and execution. He will also provide strategic advice and support for follow-up plans for growth to portfolio companies preparing to enter the global market.
The Ventures completed its venture capital (VC) registration with the Ministry of SMEs and Startups in 2021, becoming the third domestic organization to simultaneously possess accelerator (AC) and VC qualifications. It operates a continuous investment structure from the initial discovery to the growth stage, and has built a model that connects strategic design through close support for founders to VC investment.
Global investment activities are also being actively carried out. Southeast Asia is set as a major growth base, and preemptively invested in local startups including Vietnam's Plum AI. It is expanding its portfolio in various fields such as content, manufacturing, and AI. In North America, it is focusing on the B2C consumer goods sector by securing more than 20 portfolio companies, and is also in the process of establishing an offshore fund in the US.
Meanwhile, The Ventures is also running a scout program to discover early-stage deep tech startups in collaboration with major U.S. universities such as UC Berkeley and the University of Illinois, as well as domestic universities.
Representative portfolios include HeyDealer, Gbike, Fruits Family, Pnasier, Motif Drive, and Trillion Labs.
