공작기계·로봇 자동화 솔루션 전문기업 스맥(SMEC)은 세종텔레콤㈜이 운영하던 5G 특화망(이음5G) 사업을 양수하고, 과학기술정보통신부로부터 최종 승인을 받았다고 14일 밝혔다.
스맥은 2024년 12월 31일 5G 특화망 주파수 할당을 완료하고 관련 서비스 운영을 시작했으며, 지난 5월 27일 세종텔레콤과 영업양수도 계약을 체결해 이번 사업 양수를 준비해 왔다. 이번 계약은 산업 맞춤형 B2B 통신 사업 확대를 위한 전략적 조치로, 스맥의 제조 기반 통신 인프라와 ICT 역량을 결합할 수 있는 계기가 될 전망이다. 세종텔레콤은 선택과 집중 전략에 따라 해당 사업을 종료하고, 사업 포트폴리오 재편에 나선 것으로 알려졌다.
스맥은 이번 계약을 통해 스마트 조선(HD현대중공업, HD현대미포), 스마트 건설(코오롱글로벌), 스마트 캠퍼스(성균관대), 스마트 팩토리(TLB), 지방자치단체(김천시) 등 다양한 산업 현장에 맞춤형 5G 솔루션을 제공할 수 있는 기반을 확보했다. 특히 공작기계와 스마트 제조 기술을 결합한 융합형 통신 서비스 분야에서 경쟁력이 높아질 것으로 기대하고 있다.
스맥 관계자는 “이번 사업 양수는 정부의 디지털 전환 정책과도 맞닿아 있다”며, “자사의 기술력과 인프라 운영 경험을 바탕으로 5G 특화망 사업을 안정적으로 운영하고, 미래 성장동력으로 키워갈 것”이라고 밝혔다.

Smac Completes Acquisition of Sejong Telecom's 5G Specialized Network Business
SMEC, a company specializing in machine tool and robot automation solutions, announced on the 14th that it has acquired the 5G specialized network (Ieum 5G) business operated by Sejong Telecom Co., Ltd. and received final approval from the Ministry of Science and ICT.
Smac completed the allocation of 5G specialized network frequencies on December 31, 2024 and began operating related services. It also signed a business transfer agreement with Sejong Telecom on May 27 to prepare for this business transfer. This contract is a strategic measure to expand the industry-tailored B2B communications business, and is expected to be an opportunity to combine Smac’s manufacturing-based communications infrastructure and ICT capabilities. Sejong Telecom is known to have terminated the business in question and reorganized its business portfolio in accordance with its selection and concentration strategy.
Through this contract, SMACK has secured the foundation to provide customized 5G solutions to various industrial sites, including smart shipbuilding (HD Hyundai Heavy Industries, HD Hyundai Mipo), smart construction (Kolon Global), smart campus (Sungkyunkwan University), smart factory (TLB), and local governments (Gimcheon City). In particular, it is expected to become more competitive in the field of convergence communication services that combine machine tools and smart manufacturing technology.
A SMACK official said, “This business acquisition is in line with the government’s digital transformation policy,” and, “Based on our technological prowess and infrastructure operation experience, we will stably operate the 5G specialized network business and grow it into a future growth engine.”

Smac finalise l'acquisition de l'activité réseau spécialisée 5G de Sejong Telecom
SMEC, une société spécialisée dans les solutions d'automatisation de machines-outils et de robots, a annoncé le 14 qu'elle avait acquis l'activité de réseau spécialisé 5G (Ieum 5G) exploitée par Sejong Telecom Co., Ltd. et reçu l'approbation finale du ministère des Sciences et des TIC.
Smac a finalisé l'attribution des fréquences de son réseau spécialisé 5G le 31 décembre 2024 et a commencé à exploiter les services associés. Le 27 mai, l'entreprise a également signé un accord de transfert d'activité avec Sejong Telecom afin de préparer ce transfert. Ce contrat constitue une mesure stratégique visant à développer l'activité de communications B2B adaptée à l'industrie et devrait permettre de combiner l'infrastructure de communication industrielle et les capacités TIC de Smac. Sejong Telecom a mis fin à l'activité en question et réorganisé son portefeuille d'activités conformément à sa stratégie de sélection et de concentration.
Grâce à ce contrat, SMACK s'est doté des bases nécessaires pour fournir des solutions 5G personnalisées à divers sites industriels, notamment la construction navale intelligente (HD Hyundai Heavy Industries, HD Hyundai Mipo), la construction intelligente (Kolon Global), les campus intelligents (Université Sungkyunkwan), les usines intelligentes (TLB) et les collectivités locales (ville de Gimcheon).
