Gyeonggi Market Promotion Agency Acquires Human Rights Management System

The Korea Small and Medium Business Administration (KOSRE) announced that the Gyeonggi Market Promotion Agency (KOSRE) has obtained the Human Rights Management System (HRMS) certification.

On the 18th, a ceremony to award the Human Rights Management System certificate and certification plaque was held at the Gyeonggi Market Promotion Agency's main training center, with the attendance of Director Eom Jin-yeop of the Small and Medium Venture Business Certification Institute, Director Kim Min-cheol of the Gyeonggi Market Promotion Agency, and officials from both organizations.

Human Rights Management System Certification is awarded by a specialized certification body after reviewing whether an organization adheres to the policies, goals, and implementation requirements established to systematically manage human rights management. Currently, the Korea Small and Medium Business Administration (KSMBA) is the only government-affiliated certification body to operate this certification system.

With this certification, the Gyeonggi Market Promotion Agency has established a human rights-respecting management system based on the UN Declaration of Human Rights and the National Human Rights Commission's human rights management guidelines, and has been recognized for its achievements in implementing human rights management that takes into account various stakeholders, including traditional markets and small business owners.

In line with its mission of “building a virtuous cycle ecosystem for the local economy by supporting small and medium-sized businesses” and its vision of “a comprehensive support organization leading the local economy,” the Gyeonggi Market Promotion Agency has been actively working to establish a sustainable system through human rights-friendly organization operation and business promotion.

In addition, we have carried out activities such as ▲holding customized human rights training at least twice a year for various internal and external stakeholders, ▲implementing human rights management pledges at least 90% in supply chains in human rights-vulnerable sectors, ▲operating an ‘integrity cluster’ comprised of four public institutions in Gyeonggi Province, ▲discovering and jointly promoting campaigns related to ethics and human rights management, and ▲mutually reviewing human rights impact assessments.

In addition, the achievements of ▲sharing monthly human rights trends (posting card news, webtoon integrity bulletin board, sending official documents, etc.) ▲implementing the ‘Mutual Respect Day’ campaign on the 11th of every month ▲operating a quarterly sexual harassment/bullying self-diagnosis checklist ▲operating a human rights violation counseling center were also notable.

Director Kim Min-cheol said, “Obtaining the Human Rights Management System (HRMS) certification is a meaningful achievement that marks a leap forward for the Gyeonggi Market Promotion Agency in respecting and protecting the human rights of small business owners and traditional market districts.” He added, “We will continue to do our best to establish ourselves as an organization that protects the rights of various stakeholders based on human rights-friendly management and practices both regional economic revitalization and social responsibility.”

Director Eom Jin-yeop said, “The Gyeonggi Market Promotion Agency is faithfully carrying out its original role of supporting traditional markets and small business owners, while also implementing policies that take into account various human rights issues such as the right to access information, the right to mobility, the right to equal employment, and freedom of expression.” He added, “This certification is expected to serve as a stepping stone to creating an atmosphere of human rights-friendly management in the traditional market and small business sectors.”
