MakinaRocks Wins Contract to Build MLSecOps Environment for Defense AI Weapon Systems

MakinaRocks (CEO Sungho Yoon), an industry-focused artificial intelligence (AI) company, has been selected as the contractor for the "Building an MLSecOps Environment for Defense AI Weapon Systems" project, promoted by the Agency for Defense Development (ADD). The project, valued at a total of 2 billion won, will last for one year from the contract signing date.

This project required the application of cutting-edge AI technologies utilizing open source software (OSS) and external libraries. Building a platform that simultaneously ensures security and development convenience was presented as a key challenge.

MakinaRocks is participating in this project based on its AI platform, "MakinaRocks Runway." The platform received top marks in both technological prowess and completeness evaluations, leading to its selection as the preferred bidder on July 19th. The company was finally confirmed as the project execution company on the 12th of this month.

Runway is an integrated platform that supports the entire process from AI model development to training, deployment, and operation. Similar in category to products like Palantir's AIP, AWS's SageMaker, and Google's Vertex AI, Runway is the only Korean company to be listed in the "AI Development Platform" category in the "Machine Learning Operations Market Map" published by CB Insights in 2024.

Through this project, MakinaRocks plans to establish an MLSecOps environment that includes AI data collection, refinement, and version management; model experiment automation and performance tracking; pre-deployment environment configuration and monitoring; a continuous retraining system; and CI/CD-based security integration capabilities. This is expected to establish a secure defense AI R&D infrastructure and improve accessibility and productivity of cutting-edge AI technologies.

Yoon Seong-ho, CEO of MachinaRocks, said, “In the defense environment, an AI platform that can satisfy high stability and scalability is needed,” and added, “We will do our best to build an AI development and operation system environment so that the AI research results developed in Runway can be applied to various defense weapon systems in the future.”

Meanwhile, MakinaRocks is the only company among ADD's "100 Defense Innovation Companies" to possess its own AI platform. Runway, featuring diverse capabilities such as data integration, multi-model management, MLOps, LLMOps, and AgentOps, is being applied across major industries, including Hyundai Motor Company, Samsung Electro-Mechanics, Korea Water Resources Corporation, and Korea Insurance Development Institute.
