Lavawave (CEO Kim Jun-yeop), a digital crime response specialist, announced on the 21st that it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Konkuk University Student Council and will cooperate to prevent the rapid increase in digital sex crimes on campus and to ensure that students can safely focus on their studies.
This business agreement, part of Konkuk University's student protection policy, shifts away from the traditional post-facto response to digital sex crimes like body cam phishing, deepfakes, and revenge porn, and focuses on proactive prevention and containment of the damage. It aims to prevent the indiscriminate leaking of personal sensitive information, leading to an uncontrollable spread of harm.
Through this business agreement, Lavawave will provide Konkuk University students with solutions to combat digital sex crimes, including body cam phishing, deepfakes, and revenge porn, at a special discount. Centered around its AI-based illegal filming detection solution, "LAVAR SCANNER," and offering an integrated solution to prevent the distribution of body cam phishing videos, Lavawave aims to prevent further damage from digital sex crimes and assist with follow-up measures, including deletion support.
Lava Scanner can find illegal videos distributed online with just a simple ID photo, even without the original video or image of the video, preventing secondary damage such as mental trauma that may occur when the victim directly views or possesses the video.
In addition, Lavawave plans to actively engage in various cooperative activities with the Konkuk University Student Council to protect students, including providing free hacking inspection and damage consultation services.
A Lavawave official emphasized, “We plan to actively support our own digital sex crime response technology, starting with the integrated solution to prevent the distribution of body cam phishing videos and the Lava Scanner, so that Konkuk University students can enjoy a safe campus life.” They added, “We will continue to do our best to build an all-round cooperation infrastructure so that Korean university students can focus on their studies and life in a safe campus environment.”
An official from the Konkuk University Student Council stated, “Since digital sex crimes have limitations in responding to them after the fact, this agreement is significant in that it encompasses both preventative measures and practical protection,” adding, “We will actively support so that even a single student can be safe from harm.”
