Series Ventures Makes Seed Investment in M-Utron

Series Ventures (Co-CEOs Park Jun-sang and Kwak Seong-wook) announced on the 29th that it has completed seed investment in MUtron Co., Ltd., which is developing next-generation nuclear power plant MRO (maintenance, repair, and overhaul) automation robot technology.

Based on this investment, M-Utron plans to accelerate the advancement of prototypes and the establishment of a verification infrastructure for its nuclear power plant maintenance robotic equipment, including ▲WAAM (Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing)-based automatic welding machines ▲hole-pad compatible processing machines ▲automatic tool exchange systems ▲angle-controlled compatible jigs. Furthermore, it plans to develop an AI/CAM-based intelligent maintenance automation platform in parallel, introducing an integrated solution optimized for the nuclear power plant MRO market.

The nuclear power plant maintenance industry, with its high dependence on human labor and hazardous working conditions, is increasingly demanding the adoption of automation technologies. MUtron aims to implement an unmanned maintenance process by integrating welding, processing, and tool automation technologies with a precision fastening jig system. This is expected to result in: reduced maintenance time, improved worker safety, and consistent maintenance quality.

In particular, the company is expanding its development of its robotics technology to key nuclear power plant facilities with high radiation exposure risks, such as steam generator heat exchanger tubes and head welds. M-Utron believes this will reduce radiation exposure risks in maintenance sites and improve power plant operational efficiency.

Currently, M-Utron is conducting demonstration projects in collaboration with nuclear power plant operators and specialized MRO companies, and plans to expand into B2B and B2G markets in the future. Furthermore, the company plans to broaden the scope of its technology application to various equipment, including piping and welding, and explore entry into the global nuclear power plant maintenance market.

Series Ventures co-CEOs Park Jun-sang and Kwak Seong-wook stated, “Nuclear power plant maintenance automation is a high value-added field that requires both safety and cost efficiency. We highly value M-Utron’s growth potential based on its technological prowess and verification capabilities.” They added, “We expect it to establish itself as a leading company with technological competitiveness in the global nuclear power industry in the future.”

“With this investment, we plan to fully advance and demonstrate our automated maintenance robot solutions,” said M-Utron CEO An Moon-seong. “We will focus on ensuring both safety and economic feasibility by implementing automated maintenance of core nuclear power plant equipment, such as steam generators.”
