Wello wins the Innovative Application of Artificial Intelligence Award at the Association for Artificial Intelligence (AAAI) and is published in an academic journal.

Korea's first GovTech-AI convergence paper wins the AAAI "Innovative Artificial Intelligence Application Award" and is published in AI Magazine.

– Commercialization on an actual platform… Proven to reduce budget and increase public convenience, recognized for its innovative public service

– “We will further develop a policy platform that allows the government and the public to directly experience the value of effective implementation.”

As the global govtech market rapidly grows into a massive industry, Korea's govtech AI technology is attracting attention as it is recognized as an innovative technology on the global stage.

AI GovTech startup Wello (CEO Yurianna Kim) announced on the 9th that the research paper that won this year's 'IAAI Innovative Application Award' from the Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AAAI) will be published in AI Magazine, an international academic journal published by AAAI, in September.

AAAI is one of the most prestigious academic societies announcing the world's AI research achievements and is considered one of the top three AI conferences in the world. The society's Innovative AI Applications Award recognizes research that achieves outstanding results by applying AI technology to real-world services. This year, in its 39th year, only 12 projects were selected from numerous studies around the world to receive the Innovative AI Applications Award.

Wello's paper is the first South Korean paper on the convergence of GovTech and AI to be published globally, and is expected to be recognized internationally as a case study of applied achievements contributing to innovation in administrative services. Notably, with only a handful of domestic companies winning awards in the history of the Association for Artificial Intelligence (AAAI), this achievement is considered significant in both its academic prestige and technical complexity.

The award-winning paper, titled "Innovating Government Subsidy Programs with a Novel RQ-VAE-Based Generative Recommender System," is based on the Residual Quantization Variational AutoEncoder (RQ-VAE), an AI technique that compresses and expresses complex data layer by layer to enhance accuracy.

This project, jointly conducted by the Wello research team and Professor Park Jae-hong and Researcher Kim Ji-won of Kyung Hee University, proposes an "AI-based generative recommendation system" trained by combining clickstream data from approximately 185,000 users with 240,000 subsidy documents. This system allows citizens to quickly and easily search and apply for government subsidy information. The model accurately predicts and recommends upcoming subsidy policies likely to interest users.

The paper received even higher praise for going beyond simple research results and commercializing them through the company's platform. Actual application results showed a 68% increase in click-through rate (CTR) compared to existing recommendation systems and a $7.8 million government budget savings. This is a prime example of how GovTech technology can simultaneously improve government fiscal efficiency and public benefits.

Wello CEO Kim Yu-ri-anna said, “This award is very meaningful in that it officially recognizes the achievements of an innovative model that connects the government and the people on the international stage.” She added, “Wello will continue to advance its policy platform based on data and AI technology so that the government and the people can directly experience the highly effective value.”

Meanwhile, Wello is revolutionizing the policy industry by applying its data analysis capabilities and AI technology to various sectors, including individuals, businesses, governments, and families. In addition to its B2C business through its personalized policy recommendation platform, "Wello," Wello also offers "WelloBiz," a B2B SaaS for government businesses, and "WelloLink," a B2G policy management solution for government agencies. It offers policies optimized for the life cycles of individuals and businesses. Recently, it also attracted significant attention by introducing a "Hometown Love Donation" program, connecting individuals and local governments, through the Wello platform.
