Coupang announced on the 10th that it signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Korea Publishers Association to promote sustainable growth in the publishing industry and foster mutual growth with small and medium-sized publishers. The signing ceremony took place at the Korea Publishers Association's headquarters in Jongno-gu, Seoul.
This agreement aims to promote book consumption and strengthen cooperation across the publishing and distribution ecosystem. Based on this agreement, both parties plan to pursue various collaborative projects, including: operating a mutually beneficial consultative body with publishers and authors; jointly planning book-related events; preventing the distribution of illegal copies; and expanding cultural welfare through book donations.
In particular, the plan is to jointly explore practical and sustainable win-win solutions through regular consultations with participants in the publishing ecosystem, including small and medium-sized publishers. Collaboration on events to promote reading and measures to prevent illegal book distribution are also planned.
Yoon Cheol-ho, chairman of the Korean Publishers Association, said, “I hope this collaboration will not only expand the readership but also serve as an opportunity to bring about positive change across the publishing industry.”
Wayne Lee, Managing Director of Coupang Media Books, said, “It is very meaningful to have laid the foundation for mutual growth with the publishing industry,” and “We will continue to collaborate with various publishers to contribute to expanding sales channels and revitalizing book distribution.”
