Macrogen announced that it was selected for the first stage of the national project, ‘Leading the Convergence of AI-based Customized Care Services,’ hosted by Kangbuk Samsung Hospital, the Ministry of Science and ICT, and the Institute of Information and Communications Technology Planning and Evaluation (IITP).
This national project, titled "Development of a Breakthrough Technology for PhenomeData-Based AI Lifelong Health Risk Prediction and Management," aims to implement an "Agentic AI Life Care Service" that enables everyone to lead a healthy life through AI-based healthcare services. The core goal is to develop a disease-specific complication prediction model and establish a technological foundation for providing personalized healthcare services without the physical transfer of data.
The project will initially operate at a scale of 3 billion won over two years. In Phase 2, one team selected in Phase 1 will receive 8 billion won in research funding for an additional two years. A consortium of nine organizations, including Macrogen, Kangbuk Samsung Hospital, Seoul St. Mary's Hospital, Sungkyunkwan University, Naver Cloud, Samsung Electronics, Weichen, Miso Information Technology, and Digital Farm, will participate in this project. Professor Kang Jae-heon of Kangbuk Samsung Hospital will serve as the overall project leader.
The official launch ceremony for this project was held at Kangbuk Samsung Hospital at 5:00 PM on Wednesday, September 10th. Approximately 40 people attended, including representatives and principal investigators from the nine participating institutions and IITP officials. Macrogen Chairman Seo Jeong-sun was also present. The launch ceremony consisted of a project launch and consortium kickoff meeting.
Macrogen will conduct core research in this project, including: ▲prospective data production and analysis (Genotype Microarray), ▲retrospective data analysis, ▲development of a disease-specific phenome-based risk indicator system, ▲development of a PRS (Polygenic Risk Score) algorithm, and ▲multidimensional data integration analysis. In particular, Macrogen plans to contribute to the implementation of next-generation AI healthcare, leveraging its 28 years of accumulated genome analysis experience and bio big data and AI technologies.
The AI (Agentic AI)-based life care service platform to be implemented through this project is expected to lay the foundation for precision medicine and prevention-focused healthcare services. It will expand the scope of AI application in medical settings and, through future commercialization, contribute to strengthening the global competitiveness of the next-generation healthcare industry based on AI and genomic data. This will lead to innovations that enable early prediction of individual diseases, reducing individual medical costs and enabling people to lead healthy lives.
Seo Jeong-seon, Chairman of Macrogen, said, “This contract is an important opportunity for Macrogen to recognize its accumulated genome analysis and AI convergence technologies as core technologies for national health management,” and added, “Through close cooperation with medical institutions, universities, and ICT companies, we will build a foundation for next-generation AI (Agentic AI) life care services that will enable everyone to live a healthy life.”
