The number of applicants for the Korean – Japanese dictionary exceeded 20,000 in just one week.
– Eliminate language barriers with real-time translation

Enrise (CEO Bong-gi Kim), which operates the social discovery service WIPPY, announced on the 1st that it has officially launched the 'Korea-Japan Matching' function to mark the first anniversary of its entry into the Japanese market.
The core of the Korea-Japan matching feature is "expanding relationships" and "removing language barriers." Its unique feature is that Korean and Japanese users can connect effortlessly beyond simple dating, fostering diverse relationships such as friendship, language exchange, cultural exchange, and romantic relationships. Furthermore, a real-time translation feature is provided to lower the language barrier between Korea and Japan. Text in chat rooms and profiles is automatically converted into Korean and Japanese, allowing for natural communication even without speaking the other person's language.
The Korea-Japan matching feature garnered significant attention from both Korean and Japanese users even before its official launch. Pre-registrations from both countries surpassed 20,000 within a week, demonstrating high expectations even before the official launch. Over 10,000 Japanese users registered Korean-related interests, including K-pop, K-dramas, and Korean travel, as hobbies, and approximately 6,500 users indicated they spoke Korean on their profiles. This demonstrates a growing desire for diverse encounters beyond simple dating, including language exchange and cultural exchange.
The development of this feature is driven by the active support of younger generations in both countries. According to a recent survey titled "2030 Korea-Japan Dating and Meeting Perceptions," conducted by WePi, 85% of Korean men and 80% of Japanese women expressed a willingness to meet each other. Both Korean women and Japanese men also expressed a strong interest in exchange-based encounters, including language exchange (44.8%) and cultural experiences (46.8%). In particular, 91.6% of Japanese women responded positively to Korean culture, and Korean Wave content such as K-pop, K-dramas, and travel were found to be key mediators.
Wipi plans to further enhance its system to enable cultural exchanges based on Korean-Japanese matchmaking. By displaying travel plans on profiles, Wipi will facilitate local encounters and language exchanges. Furthermore, it plans to add interactive features based on preferences, such as a Korea-Japan Ideal Type World Cup, to foster active exchanges between users from both countries.
Lee Ji-hye, Wipi Product Owner, said, “This Korea-Japan matching function will provide Korean users with an opportunity to experience diverse cultures firsthand and expand their global network in their daily lives.” She added, “Wippi will continue to serve as a platform where the global generation can make meaningful connections across borders.”
