Livestock climate tech startup Metec Holdings (CEO Chan-Mok Park) announced on the 10th that its 'livestock methane measurement capsule' has been granted a design patent (registration number 30-1323666).
The capsule measures and analyzes methane gas generated in real time within the stomachs of ruminants (e.g., cattle). It boasts a higher level of accuracy than existing external measuring devices or estimation methods. The company explained that this design patent is significant not only for its technical functionality but also for its design consideration of the livestock's biological environment and safety.
Methane measurement capsules are administered directly into livestock to measure methane concentrations in real time, 24 hours a day. The collected data is then transmitted to a cloud server via IoT communication. This method can be used for precise measurement of carbon emissions in the livestock sector, low-carbon certification, and securing carbon credits.
With this design patent acquisition, Metech Holdings has expanded the scope of its technology protection to include not only domestic but also international markets. The related technology was developed based on approximately four years of clinical trials on livestock.
CEO Park Chan-mok said, “This design patent registration is an opportunity to lay the foundation for commercialization of core technologies for carbon reduction in the livestock industry.”
