Decamp Hosts "StartupOI #CVC" Event

Startup growth partner Decamp (CEO Park Young-hoon) announced on the 24th that it held the "StartupOI #CVC" event at Decamp in Seolleung, Seoul on the 23rd. The event, attended by approximately 100 corporate venture capital (CVC) and startup professionals, featured panel discussions, group meetups, and networking.

The event began with Rebellion CEO Park Sung-hyun, who shared her experience expanding her business based on KT's strategic investment (SI) from the early stages of the business and her experience in attracting global investment. Park stated, "In Korea, the mergers and acquisitions (M&A) market is not fully active, so strategic investments often struggle to flow smoothly. We need to recognize that open innovation begins with M&A."

The "CVC Panel Talk" session that followed showcased large corporations' open innovation and strategic investment initiatives, collaboration strategies centered on proof-of-concept (PoC), and real-world examples of collaboration with startups. The panel discussion was moderated by Yoon-kwang Ko, Head of the Digital Innovation Planning Team at Kyobo Life Insurance, and featured working-level representatives from Lotte Ventures, GS Retail, and Signite, who discussed future directions for collaboration between startups and CVCs.

The subsequent "Group Meetup" session saw CVC practitioners and startups split into small groups to freely exchange ideas. The networking session that followed provided a forum for discussion on practical collaboration possibilities and business synergies.

Kim Se-kwon, CEO of Pit In, who attended the event, said, "I was surprised by the scale of the event, which brought together key domestic CVC executives. It was beneficial to be able to engage in realistic discussions through free-flowing dialogue rather than formal presentations." Pit In, a company developing energy stations for commercial electric vehicles, is based on a "replaceable energy supply" model that rents batteries instead of purchasing them.

LX Ventures' Head of Headquarters Jeon Wan-joong commented, "While previous large corporation-startup events had predetermined participants, this Decamp event allowed for a flexible and voluntary exchange." Signite's Chief Appraiser Kim Joo-young also commented, "It was impressive to meet startups developing content and commerce models utilizing generative AI. It was a meaningful event, as many companies had already achieved profitability."

Through this 'StartupOI #CVC' event, Decamp plans to strengthen the foundation for practical cooperation between startups and CVCs, and to continue creating B2B cooperation results by holding a linked office hour at the end of November.
