Manufacturing AI specialist AiV (CEO Seong Min-su) announced on the 5th that it was finally selected for the '2025 Machinery, Robot, and Equipment Industrial Technology Development Project' hosted by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.
This project is a project to build an 'AI Factory' that develops and demonstrates an AI-based complex process autonomous control system targeting vehicle lighting modules. Ive is leading the development of a multi-variety assembly automation technology using dual-arm robots.
This project, with a total investment of 6.32 billion won, will run for four years until 2028. JDTech will lead the project, with LG Innotek, the Korea Institute of Industrial Technology, Geosoft, and the Artificial Intelligence Industry Convergence Business Group collaborating. Ive will provide AI vision-based automation technology, using LG Innotek's automotive LED module assembly line as a demonstration platform.
Ive is developing an AI vision-based dual-arm robot system that automatically recognizes and aligns connectors and LED boards, and calibrates the position and depth of assembly pins in real time. Furthermore, the company is working to implement a fully autonomous assembly line by building universal jig and clamp technology that can accommodate a variety of product shapes without component replacement, an intelligent logistics system that automatically transports irregularly shaped parts, and an integrated control platform based on a digital twin that virtualizes the manufacturing floor.
This project is being evaluated as a practical example of how AI can be used to address the labor shortage and process complexity in the domestic manufacturing industry. According to a survey by the Korea Federation of SMEs, 80% of small and medium-sized manufacturing companies that have adopted smart factories recognize the need for AI technology. The government is promoting the establishment of 500 AI factories through the "M·AX Alliance," sharing technology between large and small businesses, and supporting initial implementation costs.
“Manufacturing is a field where high precision, security, and data flow are crucial, and AI technology can demonstrate real competitiveness,” said Ive CEO Seongmin Su. “Based on our experience in mass production of industrial vision AI technology, we will contribute to the AI transition of the domestic manufacturing industry and the realization of sovereign AI.”
