Daejeon Innovation Center to Invest 300 Million Won in EM City

Daejeon Creative Economy Innovation Center announced that it invested 300 million won in EM City Co., Ltd. through ‘Daejeon Deep Tech Specialized Investment Association No. 3.’

EM City is an AI/IoT convergence deep-tech company that develops and operates "BDApp," an IoT-based smart firefighting and facility integrated control platform. It is attracting attention for its technology that eliminates safety blind spots caused by fire detector malfunctions.

Without replacing existing firefighting equipment, the "BDApp" utilizes data collection devices and AI algorithms to provide 30-second fire warnings, remote recovery, CCTV integration, and integrated control of multiple buildings. This approach improves the problem of firefighting equipment being blocked due to repeated malfunctions, shortens initial response times in the event of an actual fire, and contributes to preventing casualties.

Currently, BDApp has been installed and operated in over 1,000 cases in large building management companies and industrial facilities, including Lotte Department Store, Hyundai Motor Company, GS Zi S&D, and AJ Daewon, and proof-of-concept (PoC) is also underway in 20 buildings in the Washington, D.C., U.S., and with overseas facility management organizations in Vietnam, France, and Indonesia.

EM City has been recognized for its technological prowess and marketability, winning the CES 2025 Innovation Award, being designated as an innovative product by the Public Procurement Service, and receiving GS Grade 1 certification. Based on this investment, EM City has been selected for the Ministry of SMEs and Startups' Global TIPS Program, receiving up to 1.5 billion won in R&D and commercialization funding over the next four years. This funding will allow EM City to expand into the US, Europe, and the Middle East, as well as pursue collaborative projects with global insurance companies and large facility management companies.

EM City is demonstrating a 5% reduction in fire insurance premiums through the use of BDApp and is also exploring expansion into an insurtech business based on fire safety data.

Lee Bong-ho, CEO of EM City, said, “We aim to solve the problem of malfunctioning fire facilities and innovate global safety infrastructure. Kim Seong-tae, head of the investment association’s representative fund manager, said, “We hope this will serve as a case study proving the global competitiveness of Daejeon startups.”
