BTQ Technologies announced the acquisition of QPerfect, a neutral-atom quantum computing company based in Strasbourg, France. BTQ made a strategic investment of approximately €2 million (approximately 3.4 billion won) in QPerfect and exercised an acquisition option worth approximately €30 million (approximately 50.7 billion won). This acquisition is seen as a strategic step for BTQ to expand beyond quantum cryptography-based technologies to quantum computing technologies, expanding into a full-stack integrated quantum company.
QPerfect, based at the European Centre for Quantum Science (CESQ) in France, is a leading company in neutral-atom quantum computing technology. Its quantum emulator, MIMIQ, and Quantum Logic Unit (QLU) implementation technology enable high-speed software testing prior to hardware deployment, enhancing system stability. Furthermore, QPerfect is expanding its commercialization verification and research applications through partnerships with research institutes and companies in Europe, Asia, and North America.
After the acquisition, the two companies plan to pursue next-generation quantum technology demonstration projects applicable to industrial environments. They aim to verify quantum safety and demonstrate quantum supremacy through QLU demonstrations on neutral atom hardware and joint research based on MIMIQ. They will also continue existing global partnerships and collaborations with research institutions. These efforts will drive local hardware commercialization and the development of quantum one-shot signatures.
BTQ aims to develop QLU prototypes and commercialize quantum security applications in key industries such as finance, telecommunications, and defense through a phased roadmap. In the medium to long term, BTQ will focus on expanding its European R&D base, participating in global quantum standardization initiatives, and strengthening its industrial cooperation structure, while securing technologies for real-world quantum transformation in industry.
“The combination of BTQ’s technological prowess and Q-Perfect’s hardware capabilities will accelerate the commercialization of global quantum computing,” said Choi Young-seok, CSO of BTQ. “Through this acquisition, we will strengthen our unrivaled leadership position in the global quantum security and computing market.”
