Crocodile Digital (CEO Yongseop Kim) , an AI-based document digitization company, announced on the 13th that it has been selected as the implementing agency for the '2025 Non-electronic Medical Record Transfer of Closed or Closed Medical Institutions' project commissioned by the Korea Health Industry Development Institute.
In this project, Crocodile Digital will digitize paper medical records from medical institutions currently stored at public health centers nationwide or scheduled to close and transfer them to the Medical Record Retention System. Furthermore, it plans to utilize OCR (Optical Character Recognition) technology to automatically extract key metadata, such as names and copy issuance dates, from medical records. This data will then be verified by experts to enhance data accuracy and quality.
The verification process involves health information managers and database managers, and systematic digitalization work is being carried out to support a total of 18 standard forms, including medical certificates, injury certificates, medical bills, and medical confirmations.
This project was initiated as a government policy measure to improve the management of medical records during closures and closures of medical institutions. This March, with the enactment of the "Notice on the Transfer of Medical Records and the Operation of the Medical Record Retention System for Closed and Closed Medical Institutions," the "Medical Record Retention System for Closed and Closed Medical Institutions" officially launched in July. This project ensures that digitized medical records are safely stored, and the public can easily view and issue medical records through the " Medical Record Issuance Portal for Closed and Closed Medical Institutions ."
An official from Crocodile Digital stated, “We have a dedicated 1,000-pyeong (approximately 3,000 square feet) digital infrastructure and experience implementing digitalization projects for various public institutions, including the Presidential Archives and the National Archives of Korea,” adding, “Through this project, we will begin the full-scale digital transformation of paper-based medical records.”
