
AlphaChips (CEO Seok-Won Yoon), a semiconductor design company, announced on the 17th that it signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for industry-academia-research cooperation for defense and AI semiconductor research with Chonnam National University's Intelligent Defense Unmanned Systems Research Institute, Gwangju Technopark, defense innovation company Quopin, and edge-type NPU developer edgeAI.
This agreement was promoted as part of Chonnam National University's ongoing defense-related research projects, including the Global Lab, Defense Innovation Cluster, and Defense Industry One-Stop Support Center. Its goals include fostering a defense-AI semiconductor convergence research and development ecosystem, strengthening the foundation for technological independence, and promoting regional innovation and growth.
Under the agreement, the five institutions plan to engage in a variety of collaborative activities, including joint research in the defense and AI semiconductor fields, academic and research information exchange, mutual use of research facilities, personnel, and resources, talent development and industry-academia collaboration programs, and participation in joint programs with domestic and international research institutions.
AlphaChips Managing Director Kim Il-gon said, “We are strengthening cooperation with universities, research institutes, and innovative companies to ensure that AI semiconductor technology can open up new possibilities in the defense sector,” and “We will contribute to securing self-reliance in advanced technologies and industrial competitiveness through investment in technology development and industry-academia-research cooperation.”
