Backpacker, which operates the handmade commerce platform Ideas, announced that it has signed a business agreement with the National Heritage Administration to support the transmission activities of intangible cultural heritage transmitters and domestic and international marketing and distribution.
Through this agreement, Ideas plans to collaborate in the following areas: ▲supporting the opening and distribution of intangible cultural heritage practitioners; ▲supporting the collaborative development of traditional craft products; ▲promoting sales of traditional craft products; and ▲supporting overseas market entry and distribution. For practitioners wishing to sell their crafts online, Ideas will offer preferential opening and sales commissions, and its dedicated merchandiser will support branding and sales growth.
We are also pursuing the development of traditional craft products through collaborations with renowned brands. This year, Ideas collaborated with Disney, Haitai Ice, and Ottogi to present approximately 140 handmade works. We also provide creative opportunities and production support to intangible cultural heritage practitioners. We plan to utilize our global app to provide sales, marketing, and translation services in 45 countries worldwide. The recent success of Netflix's "K-Pop Demon Hunters" has fueled interest in K-heritage works, leading to a 450% increase in orders for traditional crafts in the US and Canada.
Kim Dong-hwan, CEO of Backpacker, said, “This agreement will be an opportunity to bring about new changes by bringing together tradition and modernity,” and added, “We will continue to support the development of domestic handicrafts and promote their cultural value to the world.”
