The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries (Minister Jeon Jae-soo) has selected five promising startups in the maritime and fisheries sector as "Preliminary Ocean Stars." This designation, based on companies with the potential to achieve annual sales of 100 billion won, aims to attract private investment and support growth during the scale-up phase. Certificates of designation and plaques were presented at the aT Center in Seoul on the 2nd, and the selected companies will receive comprehensive support, including investment briefings.
Reserve Ocean Star Designation and Support Package
The Preliminary Ocean Star program targets startups seeking rapid commercialization and market expansion in the marine and fisheries sector. The designation and plaque awarding process bolster public trust and help companies secure references for external collaborations and B2B contracts. Investor relations (IR) sessions allow companies to present their business models and growth strategies to the market and expand their reach with private capital. Comprehensive support is provided through growth-stage-specific elements, including investment briefings, private capital linkages, and advanced commercialization.
Investment Points for Marine and Fisheries Startups
The marine and fisheries sector is closely linked to key national industries such as resources, logistics, safety, and the environment, leading to a growing demand for data-driven operational efficiency and automation. Cutting-edge technologies such as artificial intelligence, robotics, and autonomous driving are expanding their application across maritime, aquaculture, and logistics sectors, and amidst the trend toward cost reduction and strengthened safety standards, related investment demand is increasing. The government's recent designation establishes a pipeline linking selection, investor relations, and private investment from a scale-up perspective, laying the foundation for early- and growth-stage companies to simultaneously secure funding and market validation. The five selected companies will undergo verification of their business performance through investment briefings and secure institutional support to expand their products and services and enhance their profit models in line with their goal of achieving KRW 100 billion in annual sales.
The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries plans to promote the growth of promising startups and strengthen the connection between private investors and industrial sites through this preliminary Ocean Star designation.
