SMI, a subsidiary of HMNEX, announced on the 13th that it will officially move into the 'Yongin Semiconductor Cluster', which is being developed on a world scale.
SMI has passed the final screening for the remaining lot (11,252㎡) in Section A2B-1L of the Yongin Semiconductor Cluster General Industrial Complex in Wonsam-myeon, Cheoin-gu, Yongin-si. With this move, HMNex has secured a strategic foothold within the Yongin Cluster, which has emerged as a key hub for the global semiconductor industry. The site is adjacent to SK Hynix's four state-of-the-art fabs, currently under construction with a total investment of 600 trillion won, and is expected to play a crucial role in the future semiconductor equipment and materials supply chain.
The Yongin Semiconductor Cluster is the world's largest semiconductor mega-cluster, being developed by the government with a total private investment of 1,000 trillion won, centered around SK Hynix (Wonsam-myeon) and Samsung Electronics (Idong and Namsa-eup). SK Hynix began construction in February, aiming for operation of its first fab in 2027, and Samsung Electronics is also in the process of establishing a national industrial complex.
With this Yongin base, HMNEX will begin full-scale facility expansion to accommodate its growing global clientele. It will also establish a sales and technical support network, extending beyond its existing Cheongju headquarters and Icheon branch, to Yongin. As a semiconductor materials, components, and equipment company, proximity to customers and the speed of collaboration directly impact competitiveness. Therefore, this move is expected to be a crucial turning point in expanding close collaboration with manufacturers.
The land purchase price is approximately 14.8 billion won, and parent company HMNEX plans to lead the financing. The company plans to provide liquidity through equity participation, including capital increases, to fund facility investments in its subsidiaries.
Development of surrounding infrastructure is also ongoing. The Namyongin IC on the Sejong-Pocheon Expressway is scheduled to open within the year, and construction of a wide-area transportation network, including the Bukyongin IC in Mohyeon-eup and the Semiconductor Expressway (Hwaseong-Yongin-Anseong), is also accelerating.
An HMNEX official said, “Moving into the Yongin cluster has symbolic significance as we move toward becoming a center of the global semiconductor market,” and added, “We will strengthen our partnerships by narrowing the physical and technological distance with the world’s major chip makers and use this as a key momentum for the company’s second leap forward.”
