Sage-Osung Steel Wins Grand Prize in the 2025 Gyeonggi Region SME AI Transformation Best Practice Contest

Sage (Co-CEOs Jong-woo Park and Young-seok Hong), an industry-specialized vision artificial intelligence (AI) company, announced that it won the grand prize at the "2025 Gyeonggi SME AI Transformation Best Practice Contest," hosted by the Gyeonggi Regional SMEs and Startups Administration. Sage formed a consortium with Osung Steel to participate in the contest, and was recognized for successfully introducing an AI-based vision inspection system to the steel slitting process, winning the grand prize, equivalent to the Minister of SMEs and Startups Award.

Sage has implemented its AI vision inspection solution, Sage Beams, in Osung Steel's steel coil slitting process to establish an automated exterior defect detection system. Leveraging deep learning-based image analysis technology, Sage Beams detects even microscopic defects that are difficult to detect with the naked eye in real time, contributing to improved defect detection rates and reduced inspection times, ultimately enhancing productivity. Furthermore, by providing process improvement insights through defect data analysis, Sage Beams has enabled advanced manufacturing quality management and helped reallocate repetitive inspection personnel to higher-value-added tasks.

This contest aims to identify and disseminate examples of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) that have leveraged AI technology to achieve tangible results, such as increased productivity, improved quality, and cost reductions. The collaborative model between Sage and Osung Steel was recognized as a prime example of how AI transformation has delivered tangible results in the manufacturing industry.

Sage CEO Kim Seung-hyun said, “Through our collaboration with Osung Steel, we have been recognized for solving manufacturing site problems using AI technology,” and added, “We will continue to expand the development and distribution of field-centered solutions to strengthen the competitiveness of small and medium-sized manufacturing companies.”
