The Greenfelt Project, a demonstration of bedding upcycling through consciousness-based practices and Kumho Resort, demonstrates this.

Climate tech startup Consciousness announced on the 21st that it has collaborated with Kumho Resort to demonstrate the "Greenfelt Project," which recycles waste bedding generated during hotel operations to reduce carbon emissions and water usage. This demonstration, initiated at Kumho Resort's suggestion, aimed to reduce the environmental burden of waste bedding generated continuously at hotels and establish an ESG management model based on circular upcycling.

The company collected and sorted used bedding from four hotels operated by Kumho Resorts—Jeju, Tongyeong, Hwasun, and Seorak—separating and refining the fibers. This was then used to produce "Green Felt," a high-density recycled felt material. The "Kumho Resort Edition Green Felt Storage Box," made with this material, will be provided to Kumho Resort guests as an eco-friendly reward.

Green Felt is evaluated as an environmentally friendly and safe material, with a recycled fiber ratio of over 90%, KC certification and compliance with the zero-detection standards for hazardous substances, and reduction in carbon emissions and water usage compared to new fibers.

Kumho Resort emphasized the significance of this demonstration in that it diversified the ESG management methods that hotels can implement through collaboration with eco-friendly upcycling companies.

Yoon Tae-i, CEO of Insikju, said, “The hotel industry is a sector that consumes a lot of resources, so an ESG transition based on upcycling is necessary,” and explained, “This project is an example that goes beyond simply providing a product and allows customers to directly experience sustainability.”
