Daejeon Creative Economy Innovation Center (CEO Park Dae-hee, hereinafter referred to as Daejeon Innovation Center) and People Investment (CEO Lee Han-dong) announced that they will invest 100 million won in Moisten Co., Ltd. (CEO Lee Young-mo) through the 'Daejeon-People Deep Tech Startup Fund 1 (hereinafter referred to as the Investment Association)' operated by the Center and have been selected for the private investment-led technology startup support program TIPS, and are expected to secure up to 800 million won in government subsidies in the future.
Moisten is a bio-startup that has developed a "preservative-free film" based on super hyaluronic acid. This versatile platform technology can be applied to a wide range of fields, including cosmetics, quasi-drugs, and medical devices. It adheres to the skin or mucous membranes, delivering active ingredients reliably while also being completely preservative-free, making it suitable for even sensitive skin.
For this TIPS project, Moisten is developing a customized, eco-friendly over-the-counter solution for improving pressure ulcers to improve the quality of life for elderly and bedridden patients. Pressure ulcers are chronic skin ulcers that recur in patients with long-term bedridden conditions or the elderly. They are caused by tissue necrosis due to continuous pressure on the skin and subcutaneous tissue, which blocks blood flow.
Accordingly, Moisten is developing a medical patch that continuously supplies a certain amount of moisture to the skin in the early stages of bedsores by advancing the existing preservative-free moisture-transferring film technology and adheres gently without causing skin irritation.
Moisten CEO Lee Young-mo said, “Bedsores are a disease for which prevention is more important than treatment, but there is a lack of applicable management solutions in actual clinical settings.” He added, “Moisten’s technology is non-invasive and can be applied for a long time, so it can be of real help to both patients and their guardians.”
Kim Seong-tae, the fund's representative fund manager, explained the investment background, saying, "Moisten is a team with great expandability that can encompass not only sensitive skin care but also the medical patch market through its polymer-based moisturizing delivery technology." He added, "As a startup team with execution capabilities that not only possesses technological perfection but also manufacturing and commercialization capabilities, there is a high possibility that they will enter the global market in the future."
