Daim Research announced on the 18th that it has signed a business partnership agreement with Hyundai Wia to collaborate on robot control solutions and related businesses. This agreement aims to combine the technologies and expertise of both companies across the logistics automation sector, focusing on robot control solutions. The two companies will collaborate to enhance solution performance and safety, share collaborative experience, and expand the market through joint sales efforts.
Daim Research, a company co-founded in 2020 by Professor Youngjae Jang and his PhD research team from the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering at KAIST, provides solutions for integrated control of multiple robots within manufacturing plants. The company possesses autonomous manufacturing technology utilizing digital twins and reinforcement learning. It won the INFORMS Analytics Conference's Best Innovation Award (IAAA) in 2025, placing second only to global company Ford.
In particular, the company has developed physical AI-based robot logic and route design automation software, enabling logistics route design to be completed in approximately three hours, compared to the previous three to four weeks. This technology is slated for free distribution on a cloud-based basis in 2026, in collaboration with the government.
Hyundai Wia is expanding its presence in the mobile robot market with a lineup of logistics robots supporting a wide range of payloads, from 300 kg to 1,500 kg. Supporting both LiDAR-based SLAM autonomous driving and QR code/magnetic AGV operation, the company offers automated logistics solutions tailored to customer environments. Furthermore, by incorporating various onboard devices, such as conveyors, lifts, and turntables, the company ensures high efficiency even in high-variety, low-volume production environments.
Daim Research CEO Youngjae Jang predicted that this agreement will serve as an opportunity to strengthen competitiveness in the domestic and international logistics automation markets, and that it is significant in helping Korea secure leadership in the physical AI ecosystem during a period of manufacturing paradigm shift.
A Hyundai Wia representative stated that Daim Research's simulation and control solution technology is crucial for advancing the company's robot and control platform. The two companies will collaborate to build an intelligent platform that organically integrates with customers' entire logistics systems. Hyundai Wia is expanding its supply beyond the Hyundai Motor Group to include general customers, strengthening its influence in the global mobile robot market.
