The Onion (CEO Choi Jong-seok) won the Information Technology (Software) category at the 20th Digital Innovation Awards 2025. Hosted by The Hankook Ilbo and sponsored by the Ministry of Science and ICT, the award recognized The Onion's innovative digital distribution achievements.
DearOnion's B2B fulfillment platform, "Parado," combines AI price prediction and local group purchasing capabilities to reduce food ingredient costs for restaurants by an average of 15% while helping farmers secure stable sales channels. This service leverages big data, including wholesale market prices and weather, to predict price fluctuations and implements an efficient distribution structure through real-time demand analysis.
The domestic food distribution market is worth approximately 62 trillion won and is growing 4.7% annually, but it faces structural issues such as price volatility and waste rates. DearOnion addresses these inefficiencies with AI-based demand forecasting and data-driven group purchasing, proposing a new agricultural product distribution model for the digital transformation era.
According to market research firm McKinsey, AI-based supply chain optimization technology is expected to reduce costs in the global food distribution industry by approximately 20% by 2030.
CEO Choi Jong-seok stated, “We aimed to create a structure that would reduce the food material cost burden on restaurants and increase the profitability of farmers,” and added, “We will continue to advance our technology and expand our services with this award as an opportunity.”
