On the 14th, SIG signed an agreement with Gimhae City to promote the collection and recycling of paper packs. This agreement aims to establish a sustainable resource circulation system, encompassing paper pack production, collection, and recycling, and is being jointly implemented by Gimhae City and seven related organizations and companies.
The signing ceremony was held in the Gimhae City Hall Policy Conference Room, and was attended by the Korea Packaging Recycling Association, Daeheung Recycling, Hansol Paper, Daesang Welllife, Maeil Dairies, Jeongsik Food, and SIG Korea. These organizations and companies agreed to collaborate on various roles, including collecting paper packs, promoting recycling separation, expanding their use, operating a rewards program, and producing eco-friendly products.
SIG Korea is jointly operating a sterilization pack return and separation compensation program with Daesang Welllife, Maeil Dairies, and Jeongsik Food. This is the first sterilization pack return pilot program in Korea targeting B2B channels, including nursing hospitals and nursing homes.
This pilot project will establish a sterilization pack collection system at 46 nursing facilities in Gimhae City and will also pilot a separate paper pack (regular and sterilized) disposal pilot project at 318 apartment complexes. Currently, participation in the project is approximately 33%, with the goal of achieving 100% participation by the end of the year. The introduction of a simple separate disposal system is expected to improve paper pack collection rates.
For the project, Gimhae City will provide institutional and administrative support, while the Korea Packaging Recycling Association will be responsible for establishing the separation and disposal infrastructure. Daeheung Recycling will handle collection and data management, while Hansol Paper will be responsible for producing eco-friendly products using the collected paper packs.
As a packaging material producer, SIG Korea plans to lower the barrier to recycling participation by supporting the introduction of a 'simple disposal system that requires only emptying' instead of the existing 'empty, rinse, and spread out to dry' method.
Through this agreement, SIG Korea plans to realize a resource circulation model in which producers, local governments, and the recycling industry collaborate, and to spur the expansion of the use of sustainable packaging materials.
