Jellice, a Japanese company specializing in high-performance collagen and gelatin, and dsm-firmenich, a global nutrition, health, and beauty company, announced on the 14th that they have signed a strategic memorandum of understanding (MOU) for the joint development of premium functional ingredients. This agreement focuses on developing next-generation collagen formulations that combine the technologies and capabilities of both companies, with the goal of strengthening their position in the Asian health functional food market.
Through this agreement, Jellys has granted DS M.F.M.E.R.M.E.R. the exclusive distribution rights for its premium collagen tripeptide ingredient, Collameta, in Korea and Japan. Collameta is a functional ingredient with an ultra-low molecular weight of approximately 500 daltons (kcal), characterized by high absorption and usability in the body. It can be applied to various formulations, including tablets, powders, jellies, and capsules, and is recognized as a raw material that meets the sophisticated consumer needs of the health functional food market.
Building on this collaboration, the two companies are jointly developing a new functional collagen blend that combines Jelly's raw material manufacturing technology with DS M.F.M.E.R.M.E.R.'s product development capabilities. The product is targeted for launch in the first quarter of 2026 and will be offered in a new form that enhances portability and convenience, moving away from the existing bulk powder and beverage-based formulations.
“We expect that by combining the technological prowess and global networks of both companies, we will be able to provide consumers with an improved collagen intake experience,” said Kenichi Inai, CEO of Jellys. “Recently, at CPHI/Hi Korea 2025, we were able to introduce Collameta together with DS Empermanish and introduce the product’s characteristics and differentiation to global industry officials.”
“In the health functional food market, formulation diversity and user experience are becoming increasingly important in addition to functionality,” said Ling Rei-Ting, Business Head of Health Nutrition & Care at DS M.F.M.N.I. “Through this collaboration, we will provide premium collagen solutions with enhanced absorption and convenience across Asia.”
“We are continuously pursuing customized innovation based on finished product solutions in various formulations,” said Eun-ji Jeong, CEO of DS M.F.M. Korea. “Our collaboration with Jellys will be an opportunity to set a new standard in the field of premium collagen functional ingredients.”
