Ibis Co., Ltd. (CEO Nam Ki-mo), a vehicle mobility software company, announced on the 25th that it was selected for the '2025 3rd Scale-up TIPS R&D Project' hosted by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups and managed by the Technology Information Promotion Agency for SMEs (TIPA).
Scale-up Tips is a private sector-led program that discovers and fosters technology-intensive small and medium-sized enterprises and venture companies. Its unique feature is that private investment firms (VCs) and research and development specialists participate in a consortium to provide support in the areas of investment, research and development (R&D), and commercialization.
Ibis is carrying out this project solely, and through this selection, it has secured a total of 1.52 billion won in research and development funds, including approximately 1.2 billion won in government subsidies.
Through this project, Ibis plans to develop intelligent driver status recognition technology based on on-device AI. This technology analyzes video and audio data collected from in-vehicle sensors in real time to identify drivers' attention, fatigue, and emotional states, and aims to enhance safety through interaction with the driver.
This technology is being developed as part of a response to international regulations related to Driver Control Assistance Systems (DCAS) being promoted by the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE), and DCAS is being introduced for the purpose of ensuring driver safety, including driving assistance functions such as acceleration/deceleration and steering.
Ibis also plans to integrate lightweight AI models into its on-device AI technology and design them to be scalable to various mobility services. This will establish a foundation for integrating various core technologies, including vehicle-cloud connectivity, service-oriented architecture (SOA), and lightweight AI.
Ibis has already applied its vehicle data platform 'Alton' and vehicle communication middleware 'Brighton' to over 3 million global OEM mass-produced vehicles, and through this scale-up TIPS project, it plans to secure future mobility technologies and strengthen its capabilities to respond to the global market.
Ibis CEO Nam Ki-mo stated, “As regulations related to driver safety are expanding in the global market, we will accelerate the acquisition and commercialization of related technologies through the development of intelligent driver status recognition technology.”
