The Korea Technology Finance Corporation (Korea Technology Finance Corporation, Chairman Kim Jong-ho, hereinafter referred to as “KIBO”) announced that it held a legal seminar on the effective implementation of the “Serious Disaster Punishment Act” and the spread of safety culture at its Busan headquarters on Thursday the 18th.
This seminar was organized to enhance employees' understanding of the law in response to the new administration's safety and health policy, and to establish an institutional foundation for preventing major accidents and spreading awareness within the organization.
The seminar was attended by Kibo executives and executives from Kibomate, a facility management subsidiary. Participants shared their opinions on various topics, including key provisions of the Serious Disaster Punishment Act, analysis of relevant case law, and implementation requirements for contractors, enhancing their understanding of the law's application.
Attorney Taeyeon Kim of Hwawoo Law Firm, who gave a presentation on the topic, emphasized, “We must establish a management system that not only ensures the safety of employees within the workplace, but also allows employees of subsidiaries to work safely at various building construction and facility management sites.” He added, “In particular, as a public institution, it is desirable for Kibo to fulfill its social responsibility by taking appropriate measures against companies that violate the Serious Disaster Punishment Act.”
Based on the diverse opinions presented at this seminar, KIBO plans to review the safety management systems of all its subsidiaries and affiliates. Furthermore, the company plans to establish internal guidelines that strengthen the screening criteria for companies found to be violating the Serious Disaster Punishment Act, thereby enhancing the overall level of safety management.
Park Joo-sun, Executive Director of Kibo, said, “If safety management has been focused on compliance with legal obligations up until now, it is now time to transition to a proactive culture that prioritizes the lives and safety of workers.” He added, “Kibo will continue to work responsibly and actively to create a safe environment where workers can work with peace of mind.”
