Innogrid (CEO Myungjin Kim), a company specializing in cloud computing and digital transformation (DT), announced on the 18th that it held an opening ceremony for its quantum cloud center, ‘Quantum Square’, on the 17th and has begun to innovate the domestic ICT industry and create a quantum technology ecosystem.
Innogrid, a company with over 15 years of experience in cloud technology, aims to lead the next-generation infrastructure era, integrating quantum technology and the cloud beyond AI. To achieve this, it established the Innogrid Quantum Computing Research Institute (QCIC: Quantum Cloud Innovation Center) and established Quantum Square as a hub for research and industry collaboration.
The opening ceremony took place on the 17th at Innogrid's headquarters, and was attended by representatives from major domestic and international quantum-related organizations and companies, including the National Intelligence Information Society Agency (NIA), the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI), the Korea Artificial Intelligence and Software Industry Association, IBM Korea, AWS, SDT, FourChains, the Korea SMEs and Startups Digital Innovation Association, and Data Alliance. The event, attended by industry, academia, and global partners, went beyond the mere opening of a research space and became a symbolic event announcing the launch of a new collaborative ecosystem across the quantum industry.
Quantum Square is located on the 5th floor of Innogrid's headquarters and is overseen by Executive Director Hongjin Kim, who joined Innogrid in May. Executive Director Kim is a trusted industry expert with over 30 years of experience in the cloud and ICT infrastructure sector, having previously served as CTO at IBM Korea and Naver Cloud and as Chairman of the Open Cloud Platform Alliance (OPA), a private-sector open cloud platform association. He has extensive experience applying new technologies to diverse industries, and plans to leverage quantum computing as a next-generation growth engine to create a new ecosystem with domestic and international partners.
Through Quantum Square, Innogrid plans to actively pursue ▲development of industry-specific quantum solutions ▲cultivation of next-generation talent ▲global joint research projects in cooperation with domestic and international partners, and serves as a strategic hub leading the independence and advancement of domestic quantum cloud technology.
In particular, in a hybrid quantum cloud environment, we plan to support the development of various quantum services, such as providing operational environment management and related solutions (Hybrid OPS) and quantum cloud next-generation development environment QPaaS (utilizing K-PaaS), so that companies can solve real-world industrial problems with quantum technology by utilizing various computational infrastructures such as QPU (quantum processing unit), GPU, and CPU.
The center also plans to collaborate with government agencies and domestic and international quantum computing solution companies to spearhead the dissemination of quantum technology and the establishment of an ecosystem in Korea. Through this, the center aims to support quantum technology beyond its confines to specific research areas and take root across diverse industries, including finance, manufacturing, logistics, and energy.
“Quantum Square will be a strategic hub that leads the independence and advancement of domestic quantum technology, and a platform that promotes innovation across industries,” said Hongjin Kim, Executive Director (Center Director) of Innogrid. “We will actively support the activation of the quantum cloud ecosystem and the application of quantum technology to solving real-world problems by companies and research institutes.”
