Organoid Science Signs MOU with Dajeong Market

Organoid Science Co., Ltd. (CEO Jong-Man Yoo) announced that it signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Dajung Market Co., Ltd., which operates the pet snack brand 'Lorenz', on the 10th to promote a joint business.

Dajeonghan Market develops and sells pet snacks and health functional foods using unappetizing agricultural products. Its eco-friendly yet innovative approach has recently gained traction in the pet industry. This agreement aims to collaborate with both companies on a project to demonstrate the potential toxicity and efficacy of pet products using animal organoids.

Through this agreement, Organoid Science and Lorenz plan to conduct studies to ▲preliminarily verify harmful effects on the skin through product toxicity evaluation using pet skin organoids, ▲verify barrier recovery efficacy in a leaky gut syndrome disease model through evaluation of intestinal adhesion and barrier recovery efficacy based on pet intestinal organoids, and ▲verify proliferation and barrier recovery efficacy for nine types of animal feed products through evaluation of proliferation and barrier recovery efficacy based on pet intestinal organoids. As a result, they plan to expand organoid technology, which has been mainly used in human disease research, to the field of pet product evaluation and establish an innovative testing platform that can replace animal testing.

In particular, the two companies are jointly aiming to obtain certification from the international non-profit organization "Animal Free Initiative (AFI)" based on the results of the efficacy evaluation of pet products utilizing organoids. AFI is an organization that certifies the safety and sustainability of products through "animal-free" technology that replaces animal testing. AFI's certification ("AFI Certification Mark") is awarded only to products that evaluate the efficacy and toxicity of cosmetics, chemicals, and household products using cutting-edge biotechnology without animal testing and meet strict standards.

Through this agreement, Organoid Science will expand its accumulated expertise into the pet healthcare field. This is expected to serve as a symbolic example demonstrating the practical application and expansion of organoid technology across diverse industries.

“Through this agreement, we will demonstrate that organoids can contribute to the development of products for the health and welfare of companion animals as well as humans,” said Yoo Jong-man, CEO of Organoid Science. “We will continue to collaborate with various industries to expand the scope of application of animal alternative testing methods and secure global competitiveness through international certification.”

Park Min-soo, CEO of Dajeong Market, also said, “We expect to be able to provide safer and healthier products for pets through scientific and ethical evaluation methods,” and added, “We will continue to enhance our brand value through collaborations with innovative biotechnology companies.”
