Jeju Center for Creative Economy and Innovation (CEO Lee Byeong-seon, hereinafter referred to as Jeju Center) announced the official launch of the ‘Jeju AX (AI Transformation) Committee’ at W360 on September 11.
This committee was established as a collaborative governance platform for the public, private, academic, and research sectors to respond to rapid changes in the industrial environment, including artificial intelligence (AI), automation, and digital transformation, and to enhance the competitiveness of Jeju's startup and innovation ecosystem. The committee aims to establish Jeju as an AX startup hub and accelerate regional industrial innovation.
The committee is chaired by Jeju Center Director Lee Byeong-seon, and includes approximately 20 members, including officials from the Jeju Special Self-Governing Province and Kakao, technology experts in AI, big data, cloud computing, and GPUs, as well as representatives from universities and startups. Through regular and irregular meetings, the committee will discuss and implement strategic initiatives related to policy, technology, and industry.
The committee's operations are based on a strategic partnership between the Jeju Center and Kakao, the dedicated conglomerate. The committee plans to expand to include various Kakao affiliates as collaborative partners in the future. The Jeju Center and Kakao plan to promote the spread and industrial application of AI technology in the region through AI infrastructure support, education and talent development, and joint program operations.
The committee will also focus on securing and nurturing technical talent through discovering new AX startups, developing AI convergence education courses in partnership with local universities, and operating practical programs.
Jeju Center CEO Lee Byeong-seon said, “The Jeju AX Committee will establish itself as a strategic base to promote local AI-based industrial innovation and global expansion,” and added, “We will continue to provide support so that local startups and talents can actively utilize cutting-edge technologies and infrastructure.”
