Cryos Co., Ltd. (CEO Daesung Kim), a subsidiary of Daechang Solutions and a specialist in ultra-low temperature special gas tanks, announced on the 9th that it held a launch report meeting for the project ‘Development of basic technology for hydrogen charging stations for ships’ at the Busan Port International Exhibition and Convention Center on the 5th.
This national project will run for approximately two years, from July 2025 to June 2027, and Cryos has been selected as the lead company. It will be operated as a large-scale consortium with approximately 20 companies and organizations, including Hyosung Heavy Industries and the Korea Maritime Institute. Its parent company, Daechang Solutions, will also participate in the development of a cryogenic special piping system.
Cryos oversees the design technology for a liquid-gas hybrid shipboard hydrogen charging station and is responsible for the development and commercialization of key equipment, including a 4-ton liquid hydrogen storage tank, a high-capacity vaporization system, and a safe transfer device for bunkering. This technology encompasses the entire process of charging, storage, supply, safety, and commercialization of liquid hydrogen carriers arriving at port, and is expected to serve as the infrastructure for the development of hydrogen-based ships in the shipbuilding industry.
At the briefing, the "Hi-Marine" marine hydrogen charging station association was officially launched. Hi-Marine, a portmanteau of "hydrogen" and "marine," aims to accelerate technology commercialization through future demonstration projects and the construction of actual charging stations. A total of eight organizations, including five companies, including Cryos, and the Korea Gas Safety Corporation, will participate in the association, jointly conducting safety assessments, economic feasibility studies, and design development.
Cryos was the first company in Korea to receive certification from the Korea Gas Safety Corporation (KCGS) and boasts world-class liquid hydrogen storage technology (BOG 0.28%/day). Through this project, Cryos plans to lead the establishment of safety standards for domestic hydrogen energy infrastructure and the expansion of port charging station design and installation.
Kim Dae-sung, CEO of Crios, stated, "This national project will be a significant milestone for the commercialization of marine hydrogen energy infrastructure technology. We will use it as an opportunity to revitalize the domestic hydrogen economy and strengthen Crios' growth foundation." He added, "We plan to secure growth capital through a KOSDAQ listing and enhance our competitiveness in the global eco-friendly ship market."
