Schneider Electric's Wuxi Plant in China Selected as 'Lighthouse Factory for Sustainability'

Schneider Electric (Korea Branch Representative Kwon Ji-woong), a global company leading the digital transformation of energy management and automation, has selected its Wuxi, China factory as a new 'Sustainability Lighthouse' by the World Economic Forum (WEF).

With this, Schneider Electric now has four of the 25 Sustainability Lighthouse Factories worldwide, making it the company with the most certifications in this field. Schneider Electric’s Sustainability Lighthouse Factories are located in Hyderabad, India, Lexington, Kentucky, USA, and Le Baudreuil, France, along with the Wuxi, China, plant selected this time.

The World Economic Forum, together with McKinsey & Company, established the 'Global Lighthouse Network' in 2018. The network consists of 189 production facilities and value chains around the world that are leveraging the Fourth Industrial Revolution technologies to create outstanding performance in productivity, supply chain resilience, customer centricity, sustainability, and talent development. Through this, global manufacturers are leading sustainable innovation and providing a standard for promoting change and development across industries.

Schneider Electric's new Sustainability Lighthouse factory, Wuxi, China, is an electronics manufacturing hub that produces core products in Schneider Electric's energy management and industrial automation sectors. Following its designation as an Advanced Lighthouse factory in 2021, the company has been recognized for its advanced solutions to minimize environmental impact and has been named a 'Sustainability Lighthouse factory.'

The Wuxi plant has achieved carbon neutrality in Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 2022, eight years ahead of its target. In particular, by actively introducing AI-based green design, a closed CO₂ tracking platform in collaboration with suppliers, a machine learning model to improve energy efficiency, and a circular economy business model jointly developed with customers, the plant has achieved results such as reducing Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 90%, Scope 3 emissions by 65%, and water usage by 15% in the past two years.

The Wuxi plant is also a representative implementation of Schneider Electric's 'IMPACT Supply Chain' program. The program is a strategy to have a positive impact on both customers and the global environment, and is operated based on four core axes: 'People', 'Planet', 'Customers', and 'Performance'. We continuously invest to provide reliability and industry-leading quality to customers, and maximize supply chain performance through advanced technology, smart and integrated processes, local ecosystems, and collaborative design.

“Across our global network of lighthouse factories, digital technologies are transforming production ecosystems,” said Kiva Allgood, director of the World Economic Forum’s Center for Advanced Manufacturing and Supply Chain. “From AI-driven control towers to zero-code workflows, lighthouse factories are exemplars of sustainable innovation, setting a benchmark for driving change for millions of people around the world.”

“Our Wuxi plant in China and other sustainability lighthouse factories around the world demonstrate the importance of our supply chain operations to achieving our sustainability goals,” said Mourad Tamoud, Chief Supply Chain Officer at Schneider Electric. “Our bold investments in technology, talent development, and close collaboration with partners, suppliers, and customers are key to not only achieving sustainability, but also operational efficiency, flexibility, and improving the customer experience.”
