Abaco (CEO Gwang-Hyeon Kim), a secondary battery and OLED equipment specialist, announced that it is accelerating its entry into the glass substrate market through cooperation with the German Schmid Group.
Schmidt-Abaco Korea, a joint venture established in 2018 through a strategic partnership with Abaco, successfully developed PCB dry process equipment in 2019 and, based on this, secured the technology that can be applied to packaging manufacturing processes using glass substrates, the company explained.
Currently, Avaco is reviewing the possibility of expanding into the glass substrate market using this, and is in discussions to supply it to global mobile and IT companies for verification, it said.
Schmidt-Abaco Korea announced that it has developed equipment that can continuously perform electrode deposition processes in addition to dry cleaning and etching using plasma, and that it is capable of processing fine-line width patterns and holes on PCBs and glass substrates.
As the equipment can be applied to the AI semiconductor and high-performance electronics industries, Avaco explained that it has previously supplied six units of equipment for research and development (R&D) to customers in China, Taiwan, Europe, and the United States, and has completed initial performance verification for full-scale mass production equipment supply.
Avaco said it is in discussions with a partner of North America's largest electronics manufacturer to secure equipment for mass production verification of glass substrate and PCB substrate manufacturing within the first quarter of this year.
An Abaco official said, “The equipment developed by Schmid Abaco Korea is evaluated to have unrivaled competitiveness, and demand is expected to increase,” adding, “With the successful listing of the Schmid Group on NASDAQ, our entry into the global market will become more active.”
Meanwhile, Abaco announced that it plans to exhibit and promote the equipment at 'SEMICON KOREA 2025', the world's largest semiconductor exhibition, held from February 19th to 21st.
