Airbnb, Mr. Mansion, and the Foreign Residents Association Sign a Three-Party Agreement

Airbnb announced on January 17 that it signed a three-party business agreement (MOU) with Mister Mansion, a domestic mid- to long-term accommodation service platform, and the Foreigner Tourist City Homestay Association (hereafter, the Foreigner Association) to strengthen cooperation. The signing ceremony was attended by Kim Seung-beom, Airbnb Korea policy director, Jeong Seong-jun, CEO of Mister Mansion, and Chae Bo-young, president of the Foreigner Association.

According to this agreement, the three organizations will cooperate in various areas to develop shared accommodation policies, such as ▲creating a safe and trustworthy accommodation environment, such as business registration in accordance with relevant laws and regulations, ▲educating accommodation operators for proper shared accommodation operation, and ▲eliminating discrimination against domestic residents and easing actual residency requirements.

Through this agreement, Airbnb and Mr. Mansion will work together to increase the reliability of shared accommodation and expand sales opportunities for hosts, and through this, aim to revitalize and expand the base of domestic shared accommodation. The Association of Foreign Residents plans to support on-site inspections of accommodations and host training, and contribute to the creation of a healthy and sound shared accommodation ecosystem.

Kim Seung-beom, Airbnb Korea’s head of policy, said, “Airbnb is working to increase the reliability of shared accommodations through the mandatory submission of business registration certificates,” and “Through this agreement, we will seek mutual growth and development with domestic businesses and contribute to attracting 30 million foreign tourists.”

Jeong Seong-jun, CEO of Mister Mansion, said, “I believe this business agreement is the first step toward establishing a trustworthy and proper shared accommodation culture for Korean users,” and added, “We will do our best together with Airbnb and the Oedo Residents Association to create a healthy shared accommodation ecosystem.”

Chae Bo-young, the president of the Foreign Residents Association, said, “Through this partnership, we will share the Foreign Residents Association’s know-how in operating accommodations and support proper accommodation operation,” adding, “As there are excessive regulations such as restrictions on domestic citizens using shared accommodations, we will work to develop a better shared accommodation system.”
